brief lore:

AI company tries make the "next innovation" accidentally creates some malicious program that replicates itself onto the internet before it could get shut down, sometime later it ended up stumbling upon a website with sonic rom hacks (it had invaded a few small websites prior). it began absorbing/stealing data from the games and mimicking sonic the hedgehog due to his prominence in the franchise. it does mimic other characters but not as often
