Next year we enter a new era of Pokemon TCG. Wow. In the meantime though, The Pokemon Company has released a teaser trailer showing off a few cards coming in the Scarlet and Violet expansion, as well as the return of a beloved mechanic. First off, let's talk about the new cards.

Obviously, there isn't a lot to take in here.
But I stan Lucario so it's cool. One thing worth noting is that the art sort of "bleeds" off of the traditional border and creates and effect I really like.
Besides these 3 cards, 2 more were shown:

Now those are Pokemon cards.
I love everything about the new card changes, even the most subtle stuff all comes together to make these cards gorgeous.
The biggest thing worth noting here, however, is the return of the "ex" mechanic (not to be confused with the "EX" mechanic of the Black and White/X and Y era).

The sleek new font of the logo looks amazing. Just pointing that out.
This iteration of the ex mechanic appears to functionally be the same as the ex mechanic of old: in exchange for largely boosted HP and damage output, your opponent takes 2 prize cards when they knock out your Pokemon ex. Personally, I love that they brought this back, as I thought the Pokemon V, VMAX, and VSTAR mechanic was a little more complicated than it needed to be and the risk factor involved with evolving a V card was a bit unnecessary. In short, the competitive TCG community is saved.
But here's where it gets really interesting.
At the very end of the video, they show us this:

HOLY CRAP
A crystallized version of the ex logo. Or, perhaps, a Terrastalized version of it. Terrastalized ex cards will appear in all future Scarlet and Violet expansions. How they will work, I have no clue, but I am very excited to see what they have in store for us.
With that, I'm out.
Peace,
Kiwi
