Reflecting on 2022

And with that, another year has passed!

This year has been amazing for me, both as a developer and as a person. I passed my exams and got in the high school I wanted to go to for a whole year (not excluding the amazing classmates and friends I made here), I met old family members I haven't met in so long etc.

Now, talking about what I worked on this year, lets talk about Overclocked first. Truth be told, the game is pretty much abandoned by now, and it was coming fast. I've lost all the love I had for both the community and the games (including Security Breach, which I consider to be a disgrace to the franchise, aswell as all the constant drama happening left and right in the community), and the fact I just feel more free and at home with the Sonic fanbase.

I know I promised I would keep working on the game and not cancel it, but when you have to fight with the fact you just don't love the franchise you're making the game for anymore, it's tough. By now, I would have cancelled the project and moved on to work on Sonic Horizons only, but I feel like I'll come back to FNAF sometime, and if I cancel the game now, I'll just keep tarnishing the trust you guys have in me, aswell as throwing a game people we're looking forward to out of the window. Fills me with guilt. So with that, the future of the game is uncertain at best. (edit: for those still reading this, I have made my mind and Overlocked IS cancelled)

But I've also published the demo to my first proper Sonic fangame, Sonic Horizons!

The game quickly rose among many people's favorite entries at this year's SAGE, and I've got people left and right looking forward to the game's progress! This to me made my year, finally being able to publish something that people love, and motivated me even more to continue working on Horizons (and further making me abandon Overclocked....)

Horizons is by far my biggest project ever, bigger than any other game I've made. Making a full open-world game from scratch: physics, cutscenes, gameplay, graphics, WORLDS, all made only by me, is a hard job, but I'm having fun working on it every step of the way!

I've also made some more miscellaneous projects along the way: the 2D Sonic framework I'm still working on, a custom game engine in C++, a Clickteam clone of all things in Unity etc.

This was overall an amazing year for me, possibly even the best. Being able to finally see my work be appreciated and loved by many, finally entering high school, meeting new friends and old family members, it was nuts!

Before I go, I'm gonna give some brief talk to some friends that helped make my year:

  • @climatrix basically my online bro, amazing musician, insane software engineer, just an insanely talented dude, and probably my closest online friend right now

  • @ddemkoo I was always an admirer of your work, ever since late 2017, I’ve been looking forward to your future, and your style at making games basically helped me forge my own distinct style. Plus, you’re an awesome friend in general and someone I love hanging around with!

  • @fredinator1 probably one of the first friends I’ve had in the FNaF community, you always helped me with motivation issues and giving needed feedback everywhere, and we’ve also helped invent A Golden Past in it’s early days in 2018, and look where it is now!

  • @Rextair_games you’re such a good pixel artist omg. You’re a really talented developer, and a good friend at that. Glad to see your game is getting the recognition it deserves’

Honorable mentions too we need those:
