I'm so fucking tired, dude. Aren't we all?

First things first, I recommend reading the doc that was published today in case you weren't aware of it yet: A compilation of statements regarding Shayy - Google Docs It is a long, thorough, exhausting read, and I'm not through all of it yet - I will be going back to read the rest after this post - but I've read enough to understand the pattern of abuse, and how countless victims were born out of it. If you have had any fondness for Shayy before all this, I urge you to brave its pages with me rather than relying on a game of telephone, and remember not just the quantity of victims, but the bravery these people had to face having to relive their worst memories, made vulnerable, and shared with us in all their extensive detail. The opinion of anyone that looks at this doc and rolls their eyes is not worth hearing.

In lieu of this, I have silently put out an update for Ribbit that wipes all traces of the Shayy naming easter egg at the start of the game. I rarely get the chance to do full tests of these sorts of minor releases these days, and kinda just clasp my hands and hope it all works as it should. Either way, please let me know if there's any problems.

I've been keeping up with this situation as of 2 days ago, just as blindsided as most people were when it was vaguely alluded that something was going on. I couldn't have seen the end result coming, as me and Shayy rarely spoke, mostly when I had a completed project to share, or they found something that reminded them of Ribbit. Mundane, surface-level conversations of 5 minutes length, that did not give me much of an idea what they were like outside of their streamer persona. I suppose being a similar age as them made it a lot less tempting to manipulate me, so I got off scot-free there.

Despite my lack of attachment, I still liked the guy, you know? They were there, streaming my mods since 2020, always showing a ton of support and love, even replaying Ribbit several times as each version came out. They invited me to do a commentary on one of them, and y'know, I was kinda awkward, but I still appreciated that moment. I believe that many of you came from their videos and streams. Without Shayy, I'm not sure my work would've reached even the niche that it did. I thought I owed a great deal to them, like, THE reason why I'm still here.

But now that doesn't matter, and I will simply have to accept that the person who I thought was helping the little underdog me, really probably only did it because I had quality content to offer for their monetary benefit. Ooh, look at that view count they have on their Ribbit video. Almost a million, huh? I wonder how many condoms that particular money translated into?

Shayy has made themselves the loving and marketable representative of the Undertale community, a pillar of support and safety holding together an otherwise cruel and apathetic piece of the world. Now, others will twist them and their actions into a representation of LGBT ideology altogether, one more excuse to paint us all as dangers to children and humanity alike, neglecting to mention of course, that Shayy harmed other queer people as well. This is the legacy you've left behind. This is what you chose to drop your boring job to dedicate your life to. This is what you and your ten million heart emojis proclaimed to be proud all these years for. This is the community you've built, and the same one you dropped on the fucking pavement in front of a bloodthirsty crowd who only sees to make a joke out of this.

But to paint this as merely a joke is doing it a great disservice. To call this drama undervalues what is in fact an outright tragedy. You are putrid, Shayy, a disgrace and a traitor to everyone, a dreamer who only dreamed of reaching the same temptations as any other rich playboy. 470,000 subscribers, 500,000 more eyes watching you at the GDQ's, approximately a million toys to play with in your eyes. Vaults to take money from and our art to take advantage of, spending the gains on barely legal sex harems and flashy cars while we struggle to make a difference. Given a few more years of influence, perhaps you would've gotten your own island too, who knows! You've made this community worse off, and it is up to the rest of us to pick up after your pieces, to retain any semblance of hope in the opposition of the further cynicism you've spread. Good fucking lord. Why did our trust have to be wasted on you?

I hope you go to therapy as much as anyone else does. But what I also hope for is that therapy will eradicate any notions of chasing after your glory days. If I see you around again, you've failed therapy.

And to everyone else: This isn't the time to declare your "trusting in people only gets you hurt" villain arc, this is the time to come together and realize that you do not need to be dependent on one messiah to support one another. A community consists of many people as equals, not a hivemind and the queen above you. The "love" you've been fed has turned out to be a sham all along. I only hope that you take this as a sign that if there was such a thing as fake love, then true love must still be out there.
