Hi Fallers, today I wanna talk about when the full game is going to be released. Originally I wanted to release the game on June 18th of this year, but due to my pixel art contributors not being able to work on new assets for about a month, I decided to instead release an extended demo and push the release date of the full game back to August 31st.
However, I need to make a confession… This date was just an estimate of when I thought the game might be done and ready to release. As I work more on the game and get busier with my last year of college classes, it’s becoming more and more apparent this estimate was… probably not accurate.
PinesQuest 2D is the very first time I’ve made a game. Ever. And while I’ve been trying my absolute hardest to stick to deadlines I set for myself, I am still incredibly inexperienced, which includes inexperience with knowing how long it actually takes to accomplish various tasks related to development. I was actually really on a crunch to get the EX demo of the game out on 6/18 because of how much longer programming and testing took than I initially expected. And if there’s one thing I don’t want, it’s to rush this game and deliver anything less than a satisfactory send-up to Gravity Falls.
So it’s with this that I’ve decided, rather than try to meet unrealistic goals simply due to my own lack of experience, to change the full game’s release date to Quarter 4 (Q4) 2017. Right now, about 40% of the game is playable and about 70% of the assets are complete. The full version ABSOLUTELY WILL be done by the end of the year, but as for an exact date when I… really don’t have the knowledge to say.
I seriously can’t apologize enough for this and it is entirely my fault for acting so sure in the release dates I’ve previously set when really they were just uneducated guesses. I’m entirely to blame and I completely understand any frustration you might have. Unfortunately it kind of comes with the territory of this being my first game, nonetheless, I am incredibly sorry. I can only hope that when the full version of PQ2D does release by the end of 2017, it’s worth the wait and delays and all the time it’s taken to create it, which is actually going on more than 2 years now.
Thank you so very much for your patience, and as always, thank you for following the development of PinesQuest 2D. Stay weird, my fellow Fallers. <3
