Hey guys. I’m certain you’ve heard the recent news regarding Unity. If not, then essentially what’s happening is that every new install of a Unity game pass 200k installs will cost developers $0.20 per install. While this rule won’t directly affect this project, given the sudden announcement of this change, and the lack of clarity of the new rules, I have no way to verify if this project will be affected. My other game “Stardust Rain” is also being developed in Unity, and is planned to be a commercial project. The rules would absolutely apply to that game, and it’s too late to redo everything in a different engine for that project, nor do I have the time to.
With that being said, while it’s not confirmed that free, non-profit games are caught by this, I personally don’t want to risk having to pay for two games while only being able to make money from one.
It’s unfortunate, but due to this recent announcement, effective immediately, and unless something changes, JO-Rush 1.0 will be postponed indefinitely. I’ll need to find time to rebuild everything in Unreal Engine, which could take months as I was for one: using a framework, and two: have no prior knowledge of Unreal game development, so I’d be learning as I go.
I know some of you have been looking forward to 1.0, but the current situation I’m in makes developing the project as is impossible.
Thanks for understanding,
-EX Beat
