RINSED - Devlog #11

Hello there!

Its been a while since the last devlog. Thats mainly because we where working alot on stuff in the backend, so there was and still is not that much new to show but a few things to share with you nonetheless!

Last week, we started our third closed alpha test phase! A lot of our friends played the game for the first time and a few returned to their old characters and explored the new features we implemented!

We got a lot of feedback and we want to share some of it right here, right now!

Part of our survey was about the overall Player movement and speed. We got good feedback to work with and we will now adjust the gameplay accordingly. We will propably add a new feature as well which will allow you to either walk, jog or sprint.

In addition to that we tweaked alot of stuff on the map! I added new chests, more tresures to find, more notes to find and much more! Even though the world is supposed to feel abadoned, we still want you to have something to discover around almost every corner.

For the first time, we want to share the map with you! (All is subject to change)

Now we have some sad news:

Due to the way Unity (our game engine) handels networking and allows us to use their networking solution, we cant implement networking right now. This is due to 2 reasons:

First, we would have to pay Unity to use their servers. This project is made by 2 students and we dont have the money to pull this off.

We are currently thinking about going with a peer to peer solution which means that there is not external server but that one of the players "is the server" whilst the others join him. Coding this feature from scratch will take a lot of time due to us not beign allowed to use all of unitys networking solution for free.

This takes us to the second problem:

This Project is our bachelor thesis. This means we only have 2 more months to fisnish the project and do all of the writing for our university. Adding multiplayer in this short time period is sadly not possible.

This is very dissapointing for me, Finn and propably a lot of you! I always wanted to create a multiplayer game and i always imagined this project as a multiplayer game. Playing together with friends is the main reason for me to play games and im really sad that we have to dump this feature for now. We will now spend the next weeks removing all networking features temporarily. I hope that we will be able to add in multiplayer functionality after finishing the bachelor thesis!

I am really looking forward to see all of you explore the world together with your friends and we will do everything we can to make this possible!

I hope you liked this weeks devlog and thanks for reading!

Painted some new headers for our crafting system! Survival, Cooking, Crafting... Can you guess what image is for what category? :D

Something lurks in the depths of the glow-stone mine... You better pack some torches because you will need one for sure!

Working on a new ship and looking for a name! The best suggestion will make it into the game :)

Post your suggestions on here or over at our discord. A winner will be picked within the next few days!

(The name should fit into the game's world)

Soon you will be a part of it.

Those zip-lines were once used to transport goods from the mountains into the villages below but now they make a great (and fun) shortcut for all adventurers!

Made new Flowerpots with different variants for further decorating cities and villages! :)

In 2019, 6 young adults disappeared in and around Blackwood County, Virginia, USA.

Now it is all up to you.

I'm more than excited to launch this games EARLY ACCESS! Its really been a passion project for me and I cant wait for your feedback! :)

Finally happy with the "indoors" part of the game! Adding a small, closed off area to the open world of the forest was challeging but worth it. Lots of enviromental story telling in this one! :)

In the depth of the mine, the rare glow-stone ore can be found! It is used all around the midlands to power lanterns and is a great, safe, alternative to candles!

Its almost been a year since I developed "9:16" and im still proud of what I achieved! I tried to push the visuals to be as photorealistic as possible and keep the gameplay as immersive as I could. Give it a try and tell me what you think :)
