What happened?


Well, currently JABE will have another game to go with it. It's more or less a "bonus game" that only serves as just a sight into what JABE is going to be. I wouldn't say it's a demo, because the reason being is that it's not a game built on the same engine as JABE, but rather RPG Maker 2k. Why 2k? Well, that's because of EasyRPG and I wanna try some other engine out for a reason. If I bought the thing, why not use it?

It's more or less a demake of the game and only takes place within one of the dungeons in the game. Now, the idea of Jonathan and the gang going into the arcade is practically a new idea. It should be noted that because of the nature of the game, it going to lack a LOT of features because they're simply impossible to replicate in the engine itself. For example, Kabi's Snap mechanic. This works because of Stress Points and because there's no TP system in 2k, it's not going to be added. Plus, there's no way of making states that would force the actor to go into auto mode, which is something that is NEEDED for the mechanic. While you might think the restriction of "attack an ally" can apply, the problem is that this forces Kabi to use normal attacks, which isn't something I want her to do. Another feature is again, the friendship mechanic. Because of the fact that's taking place in ONE dungeon, the game doesn't know whether or not you're in good, bad or neutral terms with Sasara, Imasu, and/or Kabi. So instead, you're starting off in neutral terms.

The game itself is more or less an NES game, down to the graphics AND audio. This is going to require MORE work because for one, this applies to a lot of things. Tilesets, characters, enemies, and let's not forget pictures. Audio is going to be complicated because for one, chiptune. I don't think LMMS is best equipped for it and I wanna restrict myself enough if I have to compose a chiptune song. Sound, on the other hand, that's a bit easy. I tend to screw around in LMMS with the Nescaline and that's mainly a source of sounds I use for menus. ...Albeit not for JABE, just for other games that is.
