Just 5 minutes after releasing 1.12 ("Trial by Fire"), we got busy again with the next update. This time we're focusing on performance improvements, as there's quite some work in this area that we can do to improve the quality of the simulation, especially on lower-end hardware. Optimizing performance is also needed in order to make room for newer, better, and computation-hungrier features; on top of this, this is a kind of work that we enjoy enormously - playing with code vectorization, data locality, shader optimizations, etc. - and thus we'll duck down for quite a few weeks trying to steal back the last FPS from the bowels of the game. We'll send out regular updates to keep you informed of the performance gains we make.
Speaking of which, we've already scored some points in this area: many users have reported that the "Load Ship" window freezes their systems for quite a few seconds while trying to load ship previews, and we are happy to report that this has been fixed for the next update! The new window is less computation-hungry and the UI stays smooth while the window is open.
On a completely different topic, together with Michael Bozarth we have released the "Youtubers Ship Pack" - a new collection of ships to honor the big youtubers that delve so much of their attention to Floating Sandbox. Check the ship pack out at http://floatingsandbox.com/ship-packs/!
As usual, we conclude our status update with some of the most recent Floating Sandbox videos. Enjoy!!!
