My heart has told me to write this article to encourage everyone to move on. As the Scratch moderation and the website itself doesn't seem to change at all, I may have to finally put a big pin against it.
Some of you remembered this article, and I probably won't make any more because everything is pretty much the same old dumpster fire there, not to mention of the unshared projects thing.
Speaking of unshared projects, I went into the discussion forum on Scratch that discusses primarily about securing unshared projects and some other lame updates the ST made, and I found a lot of arguments there which really disappoints me. Half of the people agrees that the API change is ridiculous and the other half defended the ST. For me, I see it as just both; I'm neutral about the whole thing. At least @GarboMuffin has published a somewhat "replacement" that should help some people who relied on the unshared projects "feature/bug" (Placeholder (muffin.ink)). I think this should be promoted more elsewhere if people needed to share certain projects for beta testing, sharing assets, voice lines, etc. On the other hand, it's important to use it wisely (read its policy).
Now that we all have gotten this far, I would like to point out that TurboWarp and Gandi IDE are just continuing to advance more and more, while the main vanilla Scratch is just falling behind as their main priority is the security and moderation.
There are still several people and YouTube videos going against the ST for their decisions with the website. This includes bans, project takedowns, comment removals, etc.
Since I have matured a lot, I have to say that half of the bans and takedowns have a reason and the other half is just ridiculous. I'm natural with them. Most of the people I see that complain about these downsides are just like every other minors I see on films who complain about the rules and such. Although, I understand how they feel, but I think they need to move on from Scratch. It's all starting to get old, and we can all agree with the fact that TurboWarp and Gandi IDE are clearly superior to Scratch. And there are plenty of platforms out there that can let us publish HTML builds like GameJolt, itch.io, Cocrea, and so much more.
To those of you who love to make games with Scratch as much as I do, what is the only solution to these problems?
Leave Scratch.
Yes, leaving the main, original vanilla Scratch would be the most logical decision you can make. I have realized that Scratch is for little, little kids and most of us are just minors who just makes overexaggerated complaints about the ST. Yet, the Scratch Team isn't the best team after all, they have made a lot of controversial decisions of moderation that a lot of people strongly disagreed on. There's a big reason why this Scratch Wiki page exist: https://en.scratch-wiki.info/wiki/List_of_Controversial_Topics_on_Scratch
So far, Scratch clearly inferior to TurboWarp and Gandi IDE, and they helped us unlock a lot of possibilities that we can dream of.
Thanks to those 2 mods, they have helped me, and my dev team create high quality projects while using the visual block program tools with several addons included, which helps development progress 3 times faster. It's like it was created outside of Scratch (which technically is).
Again, leaving Scratch is the most logical thing to do. We're not little kids anymore, and Scratch is just continuously inplementing more and more limits to their website, again for "security".
And now that Cocrea world exists, that website can be our new home and we don't have to worry about the terrible moderation anymore. I can guarantee you that you can have more freedom there.
I can provide some tips on how to use both mods.
Develop a game with TurboWarp and use @GarboMuffin 's experimental tool: Placeholder, if you need to share projects or assets with others. OR use Gandi IDE and start a collaboration session.
Download the project from TurboWarp and upload it to Gandi IDE.
Make final changes (IF you need to install Gandi extensions, of course. And Gandi doesn't support TurboWarp extensions, yet, so if your project has TurboWarp extensions, then you can't upload it there and the only place to upload them is here on GameJolt or on itch.io).
Publish on Cocrea (If possible), and you can also have the ability to change your page design and disable the remix feature.
If you still love using the Scratch editor, then I highly recommend moving on to TurboWarp and Gandi IDE, so that you can have the visual block programming while having extended opportunities to be better.
Please don't let your hopes down for Scratch, well, outside of the website specifically. So, if you find yourself at a point where Scratch isn't for you, then you're probably growing up and soon realize that Scratch is inferior to the mods. If you plan to use other programming platforms, that is fine as well.
Those are my adivces so that I can encourage people to leave Scratch as a whole and move on. That website is just basically a daddy day care center, so there shouldn't be any other reason to stay.
I can promise you, you'll feel different if you make Scratch projects completely outside of Scratch.
Best regards, 𝓟𝓪𝓹𝓲𝓬𝓱𝓲05.
