Shadow Beta - Devlog 1


Welcome everyone! This is Shadow, Aka George, one of the main devs on Lucky Sevens! It's been about two months since we posted the demo that was the result of our school project and I just wanted to make a devlog about an expansion to the game that I'm working on. The rest of the team is busy with schoolwork, but since I code in my spare time when I'm not doing schoolwork (which is also coding) I've been working on revamping and innovating Lucky Sevens to bring in a new experience for everyone who played this buggy mess. Now! before we go into what I'm hoping to have pushed for this first "Shadow build" I want to say a few things.

1. WebGL will no longer be supported, to all our WebGL players, we hope you understand, but this game doesnt work well in WebGL and we only did it due to requirements by our teacher to publish a WebGL build.

2. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE THE FULL GAME - The team and I already decided we wish to sell this game on Steam, however, this "Shadow Beta Build" and any further builds labeled as a shadow build will be like an extended demo to show better what Lucky Sevens, as a product, will be when its sold.

3. This will take some time. While we are a group of 5 people, We are also in the middle of college, so we don't have as much time on this game as other devs would have for their projects. As of right now, I am the only one working on this project and it may be that way for the foreseeable future.


Now with that, all out of the way, What's going to be new?

Several new systems are being worked on by me, including (but not limited to)

More guns! - Who can say no to more weapons to go around and use? These guns will both be found within levels, as well as buyable from the shops! I can't wait for you all to see what I have planned!

Roulette boxes - You've all heard of loot boxes, and while systematically they will be the same, these will give your gambling addiction a little tickle as you roll the roulette to see what new item you can get!

Slot machines - A second loot box that has set reward types, it's a little less random than the roulette, but will still provide items if you can roll high! And if you get that jackpot....well, you'll just have to see!

Inventory system - With all the new items we are adding, it just makes sense to add an inventory! You can hold up to 20 different items, as well as 4 equipped weapons, one consumable, and even a melee weapon! Which leads me to...

Melee combat system - With ammo being money, some might not like shooting all their chips away, so I am adding a new system for your pleasure, a melee combat system that lets you punch, kick, or smack with a baseball bat all enemies who stand in your way. I really hope this will make the game feel a little more fun and might even be interesting for some puzzles in the future!

Updated level designs - We all know that the levels are unbalanced, let's not talk about bingo With that though, I am working on making new open-world-style levels for everyone to play around with! For this demo only one world will be available along with all 4 of the OG levels with maybe a few tweaks here and there to them. This will probably be my hardest challenge since level design is not my specialty, but I hope to make something fun for everyone!

And much, much more! I'll post another dev log as things get closer to this demo's release! And hopefully, it will be a lot sooner than anyone can think!

Sometimes the suction cup get sticky. Small animation I made in Blender after doing my tutorial on picking up/dropping objects in animations. Crate model by jQueary (https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/game-ready-sci-fi-crate-d98deca6…).

Back in my art school days I used to ride the 710 COPSA line from Parque Del Plata to Montevideo almost everyday. This is the Marcopolo Viaggio G4 Mercedes Benz model from the late 80s, one of the older bus models that was running on the line.
