The Hybrid crashed to the ground at Logan’s feet with a sickening thud. Smoke rose from its scorched armor. Logan stumbled back, barely catching his breath, and raised his weapon—aimed squarely at one of the Hosts.
"Why the hell is he aiming at me?" one of the Hosts barked, eyes narrowing.
"We just saved your life!" another shouted, clearly frustrated.
The third Host, standing calmly between them, stepped forward with an almost unsettling ease. His expression was too relaxed for a battlefield.
"Easy," he said smoothly. "We're not here to hurt anyone. It’s time we stopped being enemies... and became friends."
He smiled wide, but Logan didn’t flinch. Instead, he lifted his hand and flipped the Host off, his face twisted with fury.
"After everything you’ve done?!" Logan shouted. "Never. Not in a million years."
The two other Hosts glared at Logan, but the one in the middle didn’t lose his composure. He simply chuckled.
“We’re not asking,” he said darkly. Then, with exaggerated flair, he pulled out a pair of sleek black shades and slid them over his eyes.
Logan opened his mouth to respond, but the sky suddenly darkened.
A fleet of Hybrids tore through the clouds above like a storm of blades and fire.
No one hesitated.
The Hosts launched upward into the chaos, their elemental weapons flashing in the gloom. One of them tackled a Hybrid mid-air, slamming it down hard onto the concrete. Another hovered above, raining down energy blasts from above. Logan gritted his teeth and charged into the fray.
A Hybrid lunged from the alley, but was blindsided—taken out by a Camera Bot bursting from the river where Logan had ordered it to stay hidden. The Hybrid shrieked in pain, flames licking its body, before its head was sliced clean off by a fourth Host—an unfamiliar figure, cloaked and swift, who vanished just as quickly as he came.
Breathing heavily, Logan turned to the Host in shades, who had landed beside him.
"I guess you’re not completely terrible," Logan muttered.
The Host grinned. “I’ll take that as progress.”
He extended a hand. “Let’s go.”
