Titular protagonists originating from CGI films who live in a world with a unique and crossovery twist (Shrek living in a world where various faily tails live together and Ralph living in a world where various video game characters live together). They are social outcasts known for their brute strength who are treated as bad guys by the people around them, and while they are short-tempered and often times rude in many cases, they are ultimatelt kind-hearted people once you get to know them. They garner the attention of a short king/royalt hyness (Farquaad and King Candy) and are used by to go do their bidding, with both unaware that they are being manipulated. They later leave their home to go somewhere you wouldn't expect them to go, get in unfitting (not literally) armor and fight evil forces to get a price that, while usually takes tremendous amount of courage and done out of heroism, they only got for selfish reasons (Shrek rescuing Fiona just to deliver her to Farquaad and Ralph getting the Heroe's medal just to seem like a good guy). However, when they cross paths with a surprisingly kick-ass princess who are just as lonely as they are (Fiona and Vanellope), they have their life changed for the better. At first, they and the princess didn't get along too well, but after a while they begin to bond and form a friendship. However, when they eventually had to turn over the princesses to the kings, and do so over a misunderstanding, or overall illegitimate reasons (with Shrek thinking Fiona didn't like him after he overheard a conversation she and Donkey were having while Ralph was lied by King Candy about how . When they return home however, they become sad and as lonely as ever, missing their princess friends and vice-versa, and so they return with their smaller friends who are also in a way their opposite (Felix and Donkey) and their eventual love interest (Calhoun for Felix and the Dragon for Donkey) to retreat the princess, with them crashing a particular event to do so (Shrek, Donkey and in some way the dragon stopping Farquaad and Fiona's wedding and Ralph, Felix and Calhoun interrupting the race). This leads to the kings foing berserk and trying to kill the princess, only for them to get killed in-turned. After the kings' defeat, the princess transforms into her true self, and they a relatively happy life afterwards... Well, until their sequels.
