Tenacious Odyssey: Chimera (Prototype)

So it's been a while since I last posted an update on the games' progress so I'm gonna lay it on you like this!

Don't forget to download the game and give it a go!


Change log (Brace yourselves)

19/04/2020

  • Added moveable camera (look-ahead panning)

  • Added Skitterbite interactions with each other

    • Added emote animations when they bump into each other

    • Added sprite animations when they bump into each other

  • Reworked sword combat (explosive visuals and clarity, hitboxes fixed)

  • Updated world materials to be more consistently flat shaded

  • Updated character animations (smoother//higher fps)

  • Removed character halting on ledges (animation remains)

  • Updated stage 2 music to be extended

  • Removed title screen (player now heads straight to menu)

  • Removed options menu functionality (needs work)

    • Pause menu may also dysfunction due to this as it is worked on.

  • Menu buttons and UI updated (visually)

  • Stage 1 & 2 ambient particles changed/updated for clarity

  • Stage 2 empowered flying enemies temporarily removed for game-breaking bugs.

  • Waterfall/climb section added to the end of stage 2.

  • Chests animations and effects have been updated for visual clarity, better performance and better functionality.

  • Breakable walls display a small health bar when being broken down

  • Updated key/door assets for better performance

  • General quality of life changes to increase performance/fps/load times

  • Updated player camera volumes

  • Changed enemy death physics to spawn loot before being flung

  • Player aerial attack cooldown reduced

  • Stage 2 falling platforms are being worked on to reduce bugs and have been set to rigid (temporarily)

  • Updated new plants and interactions in stage 1 and 2

  • Made ‘bumblemites’ (small spiked enemies) attackable

  • Improved dangerbean telegraphy in stage 2 with depth shading

  • Improved loot visuals for clarity (pink/energy blue/health)

  • Added ambient sounds for movement (player jump, steps and landing)

  • Player can now double jump off of bubbles // resets jump count on bounce

  • Added progress bar for loading screens (functionality - work in progress)

  • Bubbles now bounce the player and enemies

  • Added foreground layer to stage 2 with wiggling materials to emulate leaves

  • Updated projectile cannons to fit better visually and perform better/effectively.

    • Updated cannon projectile particles

  • Updated the dash ability to perform better in gameplay (some bugs are still known // periodically taking damage from laser beams)

  • Added surrounding tiles behind spikes for distant clarity of where danger is.

  • Interaction button added and bound to ‘E’

  • New materials added to glowing elements to shine brighter.

  • Added safeguard to the player when attacking over a ledge to prevent frustrating falls.

  • Increased difficulty by removing health points from pill pickups.

  • Changed singular platforms to drop-through able

  • Added foreground layer to stage 1 with moving materials to simulate wind

  • Sound effects added to:

    • Destructible lanterns

    • Cannons

    • Chests

    • Bubblegum bubbles

    • Bounce pads

    • Lasers

Known Issues (to fix next patch)

  • Various tiles missing in background layers stage 2

  • Some falling platforms in stage 2 are bugged and need more polish

  • Some pickups not showing in the start of stage 2

  • Player wall jump needs polish and rework

Tenacious Odyssey: Chimera will be shown at Gamayo tomorrow at The Box bar in Leeds, UK. I hope to get plenty of feedback and playthroughs as I showcase the demo, wish me luck! ( The demo will be released this month )
