I don't really know what to say.
It's pretty clear that the political allegations weren't the only influence in Scott's retirement. He's been making games non-stop for 7 years, and has 6 kids. The man needs time for his family.
But the fact that he chose now, of all times, to retire, makes it clear this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I'm honestly disgusted at the actions of the community. Stories of death threats, hateful allegations, and doxxing threats have been thrown around everywhere. Scott has made is very clear he is not anti-LGBTQ. He treats everyone with equal merit, and has frequently shown support for many companies and people with ties to the community. So the fact that people still make these allegations is sickening.
Of course, that means someone else is taking over the franchise. Although I'm sure that Scott has found someone trustworthy to continue the series, franchises being passed on from person to person only ever leads to one thing; dilution. You all saw what happened to the Simpsons. Although I don't believe dilution will occur on such a level, it's still saddening to see him leave, because we all know what will happen without him.
Still, I respect his decision to leave. There's not much one kid yelling on the internet can do to change his mind, after all.
Thank you Scott, for the memories, and the opportunities you've given me.
Sincerely, your shocked and deeply saddened game dev,
-DKrazy
