the old man driving the chevy silverado claims that he couldn't turn because of oncoming traffic, which said oncoming vehicles being the box truck in the left (oncoming) lane which at the time was in motion yes but very far back from the driveway (tire shop entrance) that he wanted to turn into.
so he slams on brakes suddenly, making the man driving the ford raptor slam on his brakes, and after we turn the corner from U.S. 301 to Lock Street my dad locks up the brakes of our truck, the truck slides, and he swerves but still ends up hitting the rear bumper of the ford raptor.
the man driving the silverado kept saying that it was our fault, acted like we were speeding and came out of nowhere, kept coming back over to us/the scene after his truck was out of the road trying to taunt and start some crap
this man also – and my father, brother and i agree – appears to be under the influence. he was completely unharmed and so was his truck, but he was staggering, he had slurred speech, and it was evident in his face as well, but the florida highway patrol officer didn't check anyone for being under the influence.
our truck took the worst of the damage. the raptor just needs a rear bumper, the silverado was hit by the raptor however the raptor hit his ball hitch and not the silverado itself: and the raptor was higher than the ball hitch, so there was really no damage there. our truck needs a new front bumper, front left headlight, new core support, front left fender and left side door. when the impact between our F-150 and the raptor occurred, we only hit the right side of the raptor's bumper with the left side of our front end cause my dad swerved to attempt to avoid it. the impact caved in our bumper, and the bumper pushed into the front left truck tire, slicing it and deeming that tire 💥 TRASH. 💥
the left side bumper mount bracket is pushed back and broken too, and the bumper also pushed into the front left fender, which pushed into the front left door, causing it to become stuck and my dad was unable to open his door because it was all rammed together. my brother had to rip the driver's side door open forcefully to get it to be able to open, and now it creates this absolutely awful and extremely loud sound that I hate when you open the door. also, leaving the door as it is and continuing to open/close that door like that could cause us to need new door hinges IF it doesn't already need those. the bumper being pushed inwards and into the tire prevented us from driving at first, so we were stuck in the road there for about 20 minutes, eventually my brother was able to take off the front bumper and we were able to limply and carefully drive the truck into the parking lot of the armory on the right side of the corner. before the bumper was taken off though, and like about an hour after the crash, FHP finally arrived. he talked to the other parties then came over to us, took our names and got a general idea of what happened, we showed him our dashcam video, and he was like 'Well, TECHNICALLY... it's a rear-end collision.' already implying the end sentence of the situation, and he went over to the other two involved parties again. the man that was driving the silverado kept insistently going over to the officer even after he went to write his report, talking to the officer for extended periods of time, (most likely telling the officer random shit he made up while he was just standing at his truck staring at us and/or just trying to drive his story of "its their fault" further into the officer's mind)
and like I said, he kept coming back over to us to stand around and be nosy and just act like he's some sort of tough bad guy trying to instigate and provoke
the people at the tire shop on the left side of the corner kept yelling at us and essentially making fun of us in the crash and the fact that we couldn't move out of the road due to the damage
one lady drove by recording with one hand on the steering wheel and one hand on her phone which was SUPER obvious by the way cause her phone case was like one of those wallet phone cases and it was HOT PINK. I hope she wasn't trying to be subtle, cause she sure acted like she was
and then the man in the ford raptor eventually came over and took pictures of our front end before we took the bumper off, which I would say is more understandable because he probably would need that for insurance reasons
but when we finally got the bumper off and drove into the parking lot of the armory and began to take off the tire that was sliced and flat this lady that wasn't even around like at all walks up from far down the road out of nowhere, stops and stands in the middle of the parking spots across from where we parked our truck, took pictures of us and the truck, and just LEAVES. like literally she just trots away and resumes walking down the road like HUH?
also I said multiple times that day when people were taking pictures "INVASION OF PRIVACY I DIDN'T GIVE YOU CONSENT TO TAKE MY PICTURE I'LL SUE" fricking lmao,,
anyway so we need a new tire. at this point, its a slap in the face because the tire shop IS RIGHT THERE. but my dad doesn't wanna go there cause the stuff they said. personally I didn't wanna go over there cause that's where the other two involved parties were and I would have to be restrained to keep me away from putting my hands on that old fucker. after he started taunting and saying a bunch of bullshit the first time right after the crash I almost reached out the window of the truck (I went to sit in the driver's seat temporarily) and yelled in his face "SAY THAT AGAIN." but I didn't,,,,,
anyway, there was another tire shop on the other side of the armory, but it was closed down. but when my brother went over to check the status of that shop, he ended up talking to an electrical worker that was on the ground at the time (their team was working in front of the closed down tire shop) and come to find out that worker witnessed the whole accident even before it happened. he was standing at his own car that was parked at the armory, and he said that he saw the silverado just sitting there, literally just sleeping. so he was like, 'why are you just sitting there!' he then said he heard the tires screech and slide, saw the impact, and a good amount of time later here comes that box truck just slowly driving by. so not only was that truck really far, but was DRIVING SLOWLY. THERE WAS EVEN MORE TIME FOR HIM TO WHIP HIS SILVERADO IN THERE.
the worker was willing and glad to give a statement of what he saw to the officer so him and my brother went over there but the officer didn't wanna hear his statement at ALL. the officer basically was like no fuck off
a little while later (20 minutes give or take) the FHP officer is done with the report, and he comes over to us, gives my dad the report copy, and writes him at fault and gives him the citation and FOUR POINTS ON HIS LICENSE.
he marked off Careless Driving on the citation, but I looked on the official website and it says CARELESS gives you 3 points. RECKLESS gives you 4 – 8. did he purposely screw that up? idfk. but that wasn't reckless nor careless. In fact, if we WERE able to stop safely in time, we would have been sticking out into the middle of the intersection due to our equipment trailer. so an accident would have happened either way whether it was us hitting the vehicles in front of us or someone driving into our trailer. and that traffic light has a very quick cycle, definitely not enough time to cover for us being stuck like that. the silverado even seems stopped SHORT, BEFORE THE DRIVEWAY. BRAKED TOO SOON. like seriously...
I will say it until I cannot speak, if that was me driving and there was oncoming traffic or I just couldn't turn yet for whatever reason, I would turn into the driveway that is on my side of the road already or pull off the road to keep traffic behind me flowing, or keep driving and turn around somewhere else safely. in this case, the driveway for the armory is parallel to the tire shop's, so he easily could've turned right, circled around in the parking lot, and went straight across when the way was 'clear'. yknow, not like it already WAS. mhm.
by the way when he got to stay for like 2 hours or something in the parking lot of that tire shop he wanted to turn into HE DIDNT EVEN DO ANYTHING THERE. EVEN AFTER FHP LEFT. like he just wanted to turn immediately and suddenly and just screw up people's day?? cmon man.
also, may I mention, we DID try to stop, we were NOT speeding – the light just turned green and we turned the corner, we were behind other vehicles so we did not run the red light – and the vehicles in front of us once again decrease our amount of space that we have to safely stop and not be in the intersection. now, like I said, we did try to stop, but our equipment trailer is very heavy. at the very least, it was about 5,000 pounds, fully loaded yesterday, which would be like the impact of us getting rear-ended. so we were getting pushed along even further due to our trailer. like I keep saying to my family – you wanna stop a problem? stop it at the root cause. and that would be the man driving in the silverado. (go fuck yourself 😁 ♡)
so me, my brother and my dad had to make a long walk down 301 to find a tire shop. now the thing about this whole (very long) stretch of 301 is that there's mostly shady used car dealers, small auto repair shops, and then a majority of that is actually just abandoned / closed down buildings. we walked to multiple places, and they couldn't help, and so we continued to walk. after like 30 – 45 minutes we walked up to an auto repair shop and the guy was basically like he doesn't have many tires but he would look and see and so he found that he had a tire just slightly smaller than ours, but he made it fit on the rim and we were able to get that problem solved. and instead of walking all the way back, another guy there was nice enough to take us back to the armory in his truck! yay
so we got that all solved, we were able to drive again, and we spend the rest of our noon til' night mowing five acres of land. holy ball.
but yeah, my dad is so pissed about the 4 points on his license. we're having The Ticket Clinic try to fight against those and get them cleared. if it doesnt work and they still stick to my dad's license, we are screwed and he will permanently be 500 times bitchier which should not be possible but believe me. it is
have a nice day,,, i hate people 😁
