Social Justice in BitVenture...

So as you may already know, you can create your own avatar which will be used throughout the game. When I started I had a few races (not human races, but Orcs/Dwarves/Humans), and I wanted each race to have skin colors. I also wanted gender, but I don’t think it’s very appropriate to have a specific set considering the large amount of gender identities, and I have limited space for the choices. So gender’s out. But I’d like skin colors to stay, because it’d be a cool way to have different types of the races. Say, red-skinned orcs & dark-skinned humans live near the “equator” of the world (based on this), but just as there are too many gender identities there are too many skin colors, and anything I implement would offend those I exclude.

Now the issue comes up w/ overly light/dark skin. They don’t work w/ the art. Too dark or light and they don’t show up properly w/ the world’s art, so from a strictly design perspective it’d be a bad choice to include them. But I really hate the idea of omitting this b/c of that.

So I’d like some suggestions. If I’m being offensive, I apologize, but I’m genuinely concerned about this and I want as many happy players as possible, so help me out yeah?

Here’s a quick reference on how the avatar customization screen looks:
