Hello everybody! G the Dev here with special news.
Sonic Mania was finally released yesterday.
I was so excited to download the game for the first time.
I attempted to turn the game into a standalone, and it worked.
But the second I clicked on the game… it wanted me to login?
There was a screen that said that it needs STEAM in order to function.
It’s pretty strange, to say the least.
I’ve downloaded UNDERTALE, The FNaF Series, and several 3D games from STEAM and made them working standalone titles with no errors.
Why did it want me to login?
I did a bit of online searching, and according to an official source, there’s a program in the game that’s been widely criticized for two years known as:
Every gamer on the internet hates this. (And apparently even STEAM users.) This program can’t let you run a game on STEAM unless you’ve turned off the Antivirus Software (That is… if you actually use that.)
And even if you do, you actually need to (obviously) be logged into STEAM in order for it to actually function. Don’t worry about it, though. The people who were looking forward to the game are now complaining about it. Take a look:

Those complaints worked, and now SEGA’s trying to patch the problem from it’s source. (At best, they should remove Denuvo altogether.)
Hopefully by the time they update it again, i’ll not only re-download it, but playthrough the ENTIRE game. Possibly even showcase it.
But, then again… the game has some major spoilers.
For now, i’ll just try and find a way to make it available for everyone.
Have patience, Luigipublicans! I’ll be back soon with another Test Result.
