Sorry for two posts in a row about this, but it's just something I'm interested in

Regarding that PVZ Remaster:

I, like most people were worried that PVZ Replanted was going to be a sloppy cashgrab piece of crap, despite being excited by the premise.

HOWEVER I have watched the trailer a dozen times now, researching and comparing visual irregularities to older editions of the game and I have come to the conclusion:

yeah, it looks pretty good!

Some things I investigated were suspicious leaves in the front patio, the zombie's dismembered arms and other irregularities in the lawn. I found these same "errors" in older mobile versions too so they aren't really errors, just look like it since I'm not used to seeing these pictures in such high res.

I thought the console HD versions looked weird as a kid. They're different to the PC version, but not bad.

believe me, I was SO ready to just write this whole thing off, but no, it's quite faithful thankfully!


some questions you may have after watching the trailer:

-Why do the animations look so weird?

I think they may have tweened and used some sort of warp tool to increase the frames on all the animation, so those aren't Ai artifacts or something. I'm not worried.

-Why the hell did they not show the pool or roof?

Honestly, I don't know. Those are my favourite areas too. I really love how the pool shines and seeing it in super HD would be neato!

-Why the bushes? WHY THE DAMN BUSHES?

I know dude, I think the bushes are tacky too, but that's just a creative decision made by the console port and like it or hate it, it's part of PVZ's legacy

-Backup Dancers have sideburns?

I know right? I didn't realize that either!

-The Pole Vaulter's animations look wrong!

I thought so too, but no, they don't move their legs while jumping in older versions either. Weird.

-The gravestones look out of place, they don't blend into the background!

Again, they have always looked jank like that in the HD releases.

-Why does the HUD shift down during multiplayer? (from steam page)

It's so the player 2 HUD doesn't hit the menu button. Why not just move the menu button? CUZ THEY'RE CRAAAZY!

-20 DOLLARS??

I know it's a bit much, but I'm personally willing to pay that much. (If you aren't, yo ho ho *wink winky winky*)


In conclusion, should they have told the original artists about this remaster? Hell yes. But I am just glad they (at least Laura Shigihara, Rich Werner) don't seem too upset about not being involved. I really hope they still get paid for creating this wonderful game though.

Also, did they use Photoshop Ai for the upscaling? Definitely. But tbh I'm not that upset about it seeing as they seemed to have polished out by hand most blemishes (besides the repeater's hair getting cut off, but that may have been an exporting thing and hopefully will be fixed by release)

Still, I'd have preferred they had the og artists on board, but shitty big companies be shitty big companies.

In conclusion, after a roller coaster of skepticism and scrutiny..

I am excited for this remaster despite it's flaws!
