Stats Screen (+ Bits & Bobs)

While working towards a demo for “Pump 3 Please!” i decided to create a splash screen that explains the basics to the player right away (mainly the mouse and keyboard controls), as well as an in-game tutorial where the manager will walk you through the first few customers, gradually introducing new duties like the lottery machine and using the coffee machine and microwave, this in-game tutorial can be skipped for players that prefer to jump in at the deep end and figure it out for themselves but all players will quickly fill in a small application form with name, age, sex and decide on the name of the store that they are working in.

STATISTICS SCREEN

Everytime the player starts a new shift, scans an item or uses the microwave to warm up a pasty, the statistics will be collected and stored under a profile for that player, in a sqlite database.

PLAYER STATS SECTION

Nights Shifted
How many shifts the player has worked
(shifts take place in an overnight petrol/gas station where the player deals with customers through security glass and a security tray for passing items back and forth, hence “night shift”)

Customers Served
(Currently a shift lasts around 6 minutes (this may change) and the complexity of the customer’s order and the amount of time it should take to fulfill that order will affect the amount of customers the player will deal with in a particular shift)
(more info on the scoring system in another post.)

Items Scanned
(Either scanned through the surface scanner (blup..) or entered manually via the cashier’s till)

Junk Food Zapped
How many times the player has used the microwave
(currently there are 2 types of pasty, mini-pizza and microwave chips/fries)

Tips Earned
(Based on your speed and ability, some customers will allow you to “keep the change..”)

Total Wages Earned
(Not sure yet whether the earned money will be able to be used throughout the game)

REWARDS/TROPHIES

While doodling with the stats screen on a scrap piece of paper i had the idea of rewards/trophies that the player could collect if they decided to play the game for more than seven seconds, these will most likely change as development goes on.

STORE PRODUCTS

I have also been rotoscoping some products for the store (trying to keep within the original style of the game):

Playable demo coming soon..

Thanks!

Hello my space friends! Now I added a space background to the ship. I love that space look but I still feel like stuff is missing. The lighting on the ship needs some improvements I think. Please tell me your opinion!
