in the game in the main menu before you get to a small snowdin town overworld section you pick your LOVE and whether or not you tried to kill papyrus previously. 6 is the max love. these changes will obviously affect how sans fights you. he'll be more aggressive and talk less as he sees there's no point. and don't worry. papyrus will have a role in one of these endings. so it's not just the cold punchline encounter.
