Once upon a time there was a tiny game studio. The studio published one mobile game and right before the second game the studio closed the doors.
This game, Smacklings is the second game. First prototype was made in Game Maker by an artist. Others tried it out and we found it really fun to play on his computer.
Around that time our designer had an idea to use hand crafted materials only, so he went on making the first character out of clay. Photographed with a cellphone the character ended up in the game and gave it a whole new dimension. More characters followed and three of them are available in the current game.
At some point programmers ported the game to Unity and started refining the mechanics. One problem we faced was that we couldn't find a proper font to fit the handmade style of the game and we were so small studio that we didn't want spend any money on purchasing a font. In the end the designer crafted the whole font from clay too and we turned it into a bitmap font.
Sadly, everyone started run dry on personal savings and only option we saw was to get rid of the company and go to regular day jobs. That was the end for the Smacklings too for the time being.
Now, almost completely redone, the game is nearly ready to be published again. We (being only two from the previous six person company) decided share our final steps on finishing the game here in Gamejolt. The game (when it is ready) will be published on Google Play. Stay tuned!
