Thank you for waiting, everyone. The fanmade Super Mario War mod, SUPER CAT WARS, is now slated for release by March 29-30, 2022.
Here's my last thoughts on the mod before it finally gets released. It has been a really big journey and we had a good time making it as a passion project that sought to revive the once-lost popularity of Super Mario War, and give a lot of people more creative liberties.
Since Super Mario War has no limitations on the amount of themes, maps, tilesets, and backgrounds to add to the game, I was able to add loads of content, including tileset colors and background alts, to encourage higher creativity of maps. Super Mario War had some pretty artistic liberties when it comes to map-making, such as making futuristic vehicles, robots, and even pixel art too, and now SCW's breaking the limit further.
SCW was able to raise some limits from the original SMWar code, thanks to mmatyas and AzureBerylBlue (Cat)'s work on the original source code. This allowed it to run better on newer operating systems, increased platform limits, experimental online LAN multiplayer, have compatibility with more music file formats, and fix a lot of bugs. Yes, mmatyas' SMWar version of the project also has these features, which you can try out on the Github page I linked in the SCW GameJolt description, and I do believe these new quality-of-life features and fixes might help lengthen the lifespan of SMWar going forward. (I still recommend Parsec for multiplayer since online LAN multiplayer is still experimental)
We had great teamwork when working on this mod, of course. Sometimes, I'd also like to help with other members that are working on their own stuff. For an instance, I've helped out with CindyChan, one of the team members for SCW, on her own project SCT: 4 Jugadores (a Super Mario 4 Jugadores mod) by letting her use assets from SCW. In return she also let me add assets that were originally made for said mod to the original SCW. I've worked with some of the composers a lot to produce a decent amount of music tracks for the upcoming Story Mode, and I think they turned out great! We even shared some ideas as well.
And in the end, the mod is finally finished. To many, it may be seen as one of the biggest Super Mario War mods in the making (as there were other mods made in the past on the 72dpiarmy community), but to me it's a passion project I've made with my friends as a tribute to Florian Hufsky, Two52, and Neutronized, who are all amazing people who inspired me to make this SMWar mod.
I hope the wait is all worth it for you guys. Thank you all.
Two versions of SCW will release when it comes out - a Lite Edition aka. Neutronized Edition and the Full Version. Lite Version comes in two parts for the sake of download speeds and filesize, and Full Version is the actual full mod itself, completely intact.
As for the trailer, it's now been relegated to being an overview trailer. Despite several requests from the users to release the trailer with the game itself, college has significantly caused a huge delay to the trailer's editing, and I don't think I'd rather try to crunch this out (Development crunch is stupid and can strain us all). SCW will be released early before the trailer, and I think it should be really worth the wait for us all.
Thank you for your patience, and I hope you guys look forward to the release of SCW this March 29-30, 2022. See you soon everyone!
