Hi. So it's been a year huh?
Last time I talked here was to announce I would work on 1.2.0 and to release a hotfix for 1.1.3 and then radio silence.
Since then, Chapter 3&4 released. How does Frozen Heart hold against the canon chapters?
I think it's fine in my opinion. One of the endings is literally the canon ending of Deltarune. And the alternative fight was always meant to break canon anyway. But who cares if a fangame doesn't align to canon anyway?
I did say "Holy shit it's like Frozen Heart" when I saw the Watercooler attack tho
Also the blue TP bar ended up being a real thing in Deltarune lmao
Just not the same feature
And UltimateHeal also became better and cost less TP!
The 1.1.4 Patch
Anyway, 1.1.4 patch, yeah? It fixes a lot of things I should have fixed a year ago but didn't because I already had half-moved on.
Fixed a crash if your Deltarune Chapter 2 save files are fucked up (like empty or something)
During the bonus battle, Kris will be healed if they are down when entering the last phase to prevent an insta-kill attack
Fixed a crash related to UTF-8 characters in attacks using words as bullets. Only useful for localization purpose which uh...
Fixed the softlock if you die in the bonus battle. You'll be back in the room before with the save point
Fixed an issue that caused Susie to be considered frozen if Noelle casts IceShock on her before UltimateHeal has the time to heal her
Some small features that were locked to Windows users only should now work with Linux and Mac. No clue if they will work but they will try to work now at least.
Now the .git folders of Frozen Heart and one of the extras aren't included with the build, which makes the size of the game go from 188 Mb to 100Mb. Yeah.
The "unix" build is now called "love" build. Same thing, different name. It also contains the Discord library for some reason. Mac and Linux users still need to do the same steps as before to run this version.
Fixed crashes and changed a LOT of stuff related to a certain hidden-you-need-debug-to-find-him blue and yellow dumbass
What about 1.2.0?
I don't know.
Very honestly, I kinda moved on from Frozen Heart.
I tried to do the localization thing but it's definitely more something I should have thought of before making the fangame, not after. Looking for every string in the game and putting them in a json file with an id and all that is very boring and loooong.
We tried using a script to automatize the process but it kinda messed up the whole engine so that was a dead end.
Which meant doing everything manually. And I'm not good at that.
Honestly, if it wasn't for me saying "1.2.0 is the localization update" a year ago, I probably would have called this patch the 1.2.0 update and left the game behind for good.
And of course, there's the problem that Frozen Heart is a year old now. Who needs the game translated to their language now? I already saw Spanish, Russian and Japanese youtube (and bilibili) channels play the game.
So who knows? As this patch proves, it's not like I just go "wow it's been a year, oh well, bye bye" but I don't know if I'll actually go through with the localization update. Maybe yes, maybe no.
Some time ago, I did try my hand at it again. The menu was fully translated. And then I hit a wall.
The main issue isn't translating the Kristal menu. It's annoying but it's doable. It's everything that appears in-game.
Because holy shit there's code everywhere for everything. Cutscenes, battles, dialogues, menus, etc.
It's something I probably should have seen ahead but I'll be real. 2 years ago, my main goal was finishing the game, not making it localization friendly. Which is a bit understandable for my first big fangame (I learned my lesson. Frozen Heart is not a "small" fangame)
Anyway, I don't have anything else to say so uh...
Peace. See ya in 4 years!
