I don't think I've ever seen a gamedev like Scott Cawthon.
Since I was a child, I've always loved how meticulous he's been with his games: from making an actually engaging and interesting lore, to creating an addictive and unique (But still simple) game play that no one up to that point has ever seen before.
Even if someone may not enjoy his work, we still can't deny that he completely revolutionized an entire Gaming landscape, by creating incredible and almost arcade-like experiences.
Scott also represented a spark of hope in an industry where almost every gamedev (And especially gaming company) is incredibly greedy, and just don't find enjoyment in what they work on.
He's always been incredibly passionate about his games, by making them the best they could ever be, but also about his fanbase: just look at the amount of fangames and fanart that exist, and how Scott constantly appreciates (Sometimes by commenting on that post/page) them. And not only that, but trough the Fanverse Initiative, he's also SUPPORTING them, so that their corresponding creators can have a huge advantage to then finally enter the Gaming industry; and their fangames, by making them official, can be brought to consoles.
And then, there was the controversy.
Now, I don't want to mention it here since this is an appreciation post, but I just want to say this:
If you don't agree with someone's political decisions... That's completely fine. What can you do is trying to CHANGE that person, so that he could actually comprehend what are their bad decisions and why they should change them. However, judging someone PURELY from their political decisions is completely IGNORANT (For example, I also don't agree with Scott, but that doesn't mean that I think he's a bad person.)
Do you seriously think that someone who has donated MILLIONS for charity, has always been pro-LGBT and goes completely against racism is suddenly a "horrible person", just because you don't agree with him?
And now, after many years since the series' creation, he's going to retire. Yes, I know that's extremely sad, but that's what Scott wanted. He wants to spend his time with his family, and I personally think he did the right thing.
Now, after all of that said, I wanted to say something a little more personal: I’m a gamedev still in my really early career, but from the very beginning I’ve always had as a reference point Scott Cawthon.
Not because of his fame, but because he's different from the others. He cares for his fans, he cares for what he does. He's human, and enjoys his work and the people who also appreciate it.
#Thankyouscott. Even if you retire, you'll never stop being my inspiration.
From one of your many fans and the entire community.
