I remember my friend giving me like 10 photos of this version of Sonic 2. He never told me about what year this was released (possibly during Sonic Advanced).

Here is a screenshot of Marble Zone the N64 Sonic 1.

This old, and unreleased Sonic game had Coins instead of rings. SEGA says that they were making Sonic 1 possible on the N64, but no one has found a copy of it yet. Only screenshots remain of the game sadly.
