The consequences of burnout and project creep: Dev update (7/11/2025)

Wow, it has been a while hasnt it? So. Many of you are probably wondering "What happened"? so, lets get into it quickly.

Pikmin 57 started as a very simple platforming game made in scratch by waddle for a hs project. However he did like the idea and we talked about making it a full game. We were originally using Gamemaker Studio and the game was going to be a platformer. But as time went on, story got added. Characters were refined more. And we pivoted from 2d side scroller to 2d top down. Kinda like Undertale.
Around this time, I was way more comfortable with Unity so we also pivoted our dev work to there. But with engine changes come other changes you never expect. Unity hated the sprite sheets we were using, so they had to be remade with unity in mind. We actually had a bit of work in the unity version as well! but then, my computer died and we lost all progress files. This lead to me grabbing a github to upload the files to for future work!
And then, college happened. I went to college for Game development and learned a lot, however thoses classes took up almost all of my free time. It made this project hard to get back to. To top it all off, Unity went through a lot of drama that made me, as a developer, not want to use them. And thats when waddle and I decided to put Pikmin 57 on the backburner until further notice. We were toying with the idea of making our own game engine if it meant that the game could live on once again.

So where does that leave us now?

Well, Deltarune came out which re-ignited my love for 2d games. And on top of that, Game Maker Studio has had some major updates since we last used it. So, while I cant promise a full speed ahead development cycle, I can say that the game has moved engines seamlessly and major systems are being worked on currently by me in GML. I'm also working on "Co-op" mode to maybe have a demo of both release [Redacted] eh, who knows when! I am still working on pikmin 57 on down times. But I am working on it.

With all that said, Im thinking of making a fan server for this game, I am very active on discord vs something like Gamejolt, Ill probably be working on that tonight and releasing an invite link tomorrow along with adding it to the description of this page.

With all that, I think that wraps up this little community update! The games still in work, but I will make sure to share some new sprites and systems as they are made!

-Shadow.

I have added rewards for quests so that villagers can give you something in return for your hard work helping them. 🥳

I want to know - what's your favourite quest reward?

Demonstration of the spells and their effects :)!
