So we are reaching the voting deadline for the #indiesvspewdiepie game jam and I think it is a fitting time to talk about what am I going to do next.
Twisted Firestarter was made with the Construct 2 free version and the Spriter free version. That means the game had a lot of limitations. But all in all I consider it a huge success for a first game.
The biggest limitations were Construct 2 100 event limitation which meant I could only make limited number of levels and program limited amount of animations and functionality. Which also made sure my scope was smaller and more realistic to meet within 72 hours. Spriter free version meant I could not use spriters plugin for construct 2 which would allow for more ergonomic way to load and store animations. Animations were made at 30 fps which meant the exported animations were quite large in size. But I was ok with it, the scope was small, platform was web only. Focusing on more fluid and pretty animations seemed like a good idea at the time, and the compliments I have gotten in the comments section seem to be supporting this claim :D
Bugs bugs bugs… yeah… so a game developed in 72 hours is bound to have a bug or two… I happen to have a plethora. From preloading issues which meant that start button would not work until the music was preloaded to some UI elements having wrong Z order. Discovering these bugs just minutes after the final submission was pretty dissapointing, but also kinda expected.
If I had the full versions of the software and a little bit more time I could fix all those bugs… I think… I could also add a lot more levels. But I must save money for that first. After the entry is unlocked I will try and fix the bugs I can but I am already at 99/100 events :(
So you can expect a bug fix or two in the near future. And possibly more levels in few months if I get my hands on some spare funds. Spending some money on this wonderful software seem to be quite justified now.
Play Twisted Firestarter here and maybe we will reach 500 plays! http://gamejolt.com/games/arcade/twisted-firestarter/38874/
