The Long Short Road Ahead - Monday Lookahead

Monday is here again which means I’m going to be talking about all the stuff I need to get done before the demo update.

But first, here’s a quick GIF of the new menu layout I’m working on:

It’s still a work in progress, but it’s SO much better than what I had before. You can use your imagination as to what will go in those 6 empty boxes. The layout isn’t quite final. There’s that big empty space on top and I’d like to add a button to directly access the books and map from this screen as well. I want to pack this screen as full as possible so stuff isn’t spread around on various pages of the pause screen.

Well, enough looking back, it’s time to look ahead to what I’ll be doing to get the demo update ready to go as soon as possible:

I’d like to try and cram a bunch of stuff into the demo update, but it’s not always possible. So I’ve made two lists: Stuff that I HAVE to finish before I release the demo update. And stuff that I’d like to finish before the demo update. Here is the list of what I absolutely have to finish before I release the update (in no particular order):

  • Finish working on the pause menu and inventory screen

  • Make the opening and title screen more clear as to what buttons to push

  • Implement crafting for all the items that are currently in the game

  • Make the opening dream sequence more dream-like

  • Add the blacksmith building somewhere (that’s where the crafting will be done)

Things I’d like to do, but may not have time to do (from most important to least important):

  • Add a boss battle

  • Add a small section of the world for the boss battle to take place in

  • Add some more books

  • Try and fix a couple townspeople to have them in the demo update

I’m looking forward to having a productive week. I think I’ve finally managed to deal with the various distractions that have been holding me back this past year, so I’m ready to get some more work done!

Thanks for reading,
God bless
