The New Continents

The next chapter of our story leads The Captain far to the west in Cerrawyn–which feels like the far east in the real world.

The Kagawa continent’s art design is based on Japanese and Chinese architecture and culture.

The new region also features a set of chiptune tracks to reflect the style and atmosphere.

The village theme reflects the simple, yet deliberate nature of the inhabitants’ lifestyle. It creates an immediate calm ambience against the excitement of a new and rich trade location.

The wilderness theme carries the same melodic structure but signifies a sense of urgency.

Finally, we’ve begun work on a theme for the region’s wind temple. This will be featured in the Castlevania-style palace for the Kagawa region–where Takeshi, the wind sorcerer will reside.

One of the interesting challenges we will have coming up soon is the idea of marrying very different regional styles into one global game aesthetic. We want to create an experience that feels vast and open, but we want to avoid creating a sense of disjunct gameplay. By expanding lesser ports between Largo Peninsula and Kagawa, it should give the player a nice gradual transition from Carribean-style maritime adventure to Asian-style content and lore.
