It’s May 31st, Not June like I promised but it’s about to June 1st in a few hours. So... Here’s the DevLog you’ve all been waiting for!
Over the Month of May, a LOT of progress has been made with the game. I’ve added some new images on the Game page and I recommend you check those out to see actual gameplay images! Anyway, I’m going to split this DevLog into several parts: Gameplay, Characters, Stages, and the Future of this Game
-Gameplay-
The game is currently being made in 2D Fighter Maker 2002, an engine for making 2D Fighting Games if you have no coding experience. The gameplay currently mimics Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom but with many changes. The game is mainly a 1 on 1 fighter like Street Fighter but with Marvel vs Capcom mechanics. Gameplay is fast and many combos are possible. The game engine is limited but I’ve been able to do many things with the engine that may seem impossible at first. Many great features are planned for the future that twist the Fighting Game genre.
-Characters-
The game currently has 3 Playable Characters. SpongeBob, Patrick, and Timmy Turner. Timmy is somewhat unfinished but he’ll be done soon. Lincoln Loud and Jimmy Neutron are currently in progress but aren’t ready to be played by others. Every character has eight Alternate Palettes, they’re all accessed by pressing a certain key on your keyboard on the Character Select Screen. Every character’s palettes are based on other characters from their franchises and some are very obscure. Everyone has a Light, Medium, and Heavy Attack which Aerial and Crouching variants. Characters also have Launcher attacks which open up combo opportunities. Everyone has several Special Moves and Supers which are done with special command inputs. These commands are simplified in order to be easier on players who use keyboards.
-Stages-
As of now, only one Stage is completed, the Training Stage which is based on the Airbender Training Arena from the Legend of Korra. Many more stages are planned for the future. Every Stage will also have original music which will be based on music from the franchise the Stage is from.
-The future of the game-
The game’s development has been very good so far and in no time, I’ll be able to release an official demo for everyone to play. I hope everyone follows the game to get future updates on what I’m doing with it!
I hope everyone enjoyed this big DevLog. I promise that more devlogs like this will come in the future! Everybody be safe and stay inside!
