Around three years ago, I purchased RPG Maker MV as my first introduction into the world of game development. I already had plans to make a game — a serious one, full of clichés and kings and gods and what have you — but since I was new to the software, I wanted to familiarize myself with the Maker first. I gave some thought into what kind of short and stupid game I could make... and then I discovered the TF2 character pack for free on Steam.
The rest, as they say, is history.
The Passion of the Heavy is a terrible, awful, sorry excuse of a video game, and I sincerely apologize to anyone who has been forced to experience it. The writing is awe-inspiringly bad (although this was my intention, at the time, to make the story as bad as possible), incredibly offensive at times (this was absolutely not my intention), level design is bland and boring, and enemy encounters are either painfully easy, or painfully long... not to mention the fact that all the enemies are just JPEGs of 2016-era memes.
At the time, I was proud of what I had created. I wanted to make a terrible TF2 “fanfiction” game, and in my eyes, I had succeeded. Hindsight, however, is a powerful weapon, and I can now say with certainty that this is not a good game. Not at all. With that being said, there may come a day where I choose to delete The Passion of the Heavy from Game Jolt. It may have helped me to learn the ropes around RPG Maker MV, but it is certainly a shameful product in my eyes now.
To anyone that may be reading this: I have been working on a new RPG Maker project for almost 2.5 years now, and right now, I can assure you it will be leagues better than this steaming pile of doo-doo. I’m sure it’ll still have its flaws: even now, I’m not very good at mapping, many enemies are still JPEGs (although now of video game characters instead of memes, huzzah!), and the script is absolutely bonkers. I don’t want to spoil anything, of course, but it’s just... insane.
Looking beyond that, however... I’m actually putting effort into this one! I’m writing a script, for one, instead of just making up dialogue as I go, and I’m planning on creating a full OST for it. Although, that OST is being composed in Musescore 3 and, uh, y’know... Musescore 3 is not exactly made for that.
Nevertheless. This is something I’ve been incredibly passionate about for a long time. Whenever it comes out, I know it’ll at least be one hell of an experience.
Look forward to No Nut November: The Wrath of Steve Eleroy, coming soon... which is to say, whenever it’s ready.
