Hello. In this post, we'll go over how DFC's ban system and the DF Discord's ban system work.
(Note: Please do not post your ban appeal in the comments of this post. You should submit your own post in the "Appeals" channel on the DF GameJolt Community.)
DF CONNECTED's Ban System
In DFC, bans are categorized into "Ban Tiers".
If you get banned from the game, your ban will fall under one of these tiers:
Tier 1 (T1) is for the offenses that get you banned for 1 week.
Tier 2 (T2) is for the offenses that get you banned for 1 month.
Tier 3 (T3) is for the offenses that get you banned permanently. However, we accept "appeals" for T3 bans. If you submit a post in our "Appeals" channel explaining why you should be unbanned, we will consider it, and you may be unbanned from the game.
Tier 4 (T4) is for the offenses that are severe enough that an appeal cannot be accepted for it, resulting in a permanent ban that cannot be undone.
If your ban is not permanent (T1 or T2), you will automatically be allowed back into the game once your ban period is over. Unless your T1/T2 ban is found to be invalid, we do not accept appeals for temporary bans. You will need to wait out the length of your ban, and then you can return to the game once the ban has been lifted.
If you repeatedly get T1 or T2 bans, your ban may end up getting raised to a T3 ban, even if the offense wasn't categorized as T3 offense. Please do not repeatedly break the game's rules, or you risk getting a permanent ban.
T3 bans are the only tier we generally accept appeals for. Appeals can be submitted in the "Appeals" channel of our GameJolt Community. When we receive an appeal, the DFC Admin Team will make the decision to accept or deny the appeal based on the following criteria:
The appealer's past behavior.
The severity of the appealer's offense(s).
The tone of the appeal (did the appealer apologize for their actions, did it sound genuine, did they promise never to do it again, etc).
If an appeal is accepted, the appealer will be unbanned from the game.
If an appeal is rejected, the appealer will not be unbanned from the game. Please note: we do not accept repeat appeals. Repeat appeals should only be filed if the appealer truly believes their ban was made in error and has additional evidence to prove it.
Please note that if you are trying to appeal for an offense of cheating of any form, then you may be asked to accept to your save files being reset as a condition for your unban. If you don't want to risk losing your save files, we ask that you respect our rules so that everyone can have fun.
Finally, just to be clear, getting banned from the multiplayer server does not remove your ability to play the upcoming Story Mode or the Offline Mode. You will continue to be able to play the rest of the game with no issues, despite being banned from the multiplayer server.
DF Discord's Ban System
In our Discord server, members who break the server rules may be given either a "Warning", a "Strike", or a ban. This depends on the severity of the offense.
Typically, first-time offenses (that aren't considered severe) will be met with a "Warning". One of the server admins will send a message in chat to warn the user to stop whatever offense they're doing, and a "Warned" role will be applied to them.
If an offense is a little more severe, or a user has already been "Warned" once before and offends again, then they will receive a "Strike". When a user has the "Striked" role, this means that any further offense after this will result in a ban.
If an offense is deemed very severe, or if a user already has a "Strike" and they offend again, then they will be banned from the server.
Typically, we do not accept appeals for bans from the Discord server, unless we can be provided with evidence or a reasonable explanation that makes the ban invalid. If you know your ban was justified, please do not submit a appeal.
Being banned from the Discord server doesn't always result in being banned from the game as well. It's possible to be banned from the Discord server and still be allowed to play the game online, and vice versa.
How are offenses categorized in DFC?
Here is a list of offenses that can be punished for in DF CONNECTED, and their corresponding Ban Tier:
Tier 1 (These will get you banned for 1 week):
Disrespectful/hateful messages.
Spamming.
Advertising of any kind.
Ignoring warnings from admins.
Tier 2 (These will get you banned for 1 month):
Targeted hate messages towards other players (strong harassment, slurs, hate speech, etc).
NSFW messages.
(Note: Saying an innuendo as a joke once or twice is fine within reason, but please remember it might make other players uncomfortable, so don't go overboard. We can't prove what the intent behind your messages are, so try to avoid saying anything that isn't an obvious joke.)
Speedhacking.
Autoclicker.
Using multiple accounts at once.
PvP scumming.
Knowingly using or encouraging usage of a gameplay bug/exploit.
Usage or encouraging usage of cheating software.
Tier 3 (These will get you banned permanently, but might be able to get an appeal in certain cases):
Stat manipulation (using cheating software to gain an unfair advantage).
Using a public/widely-shared account.
Repeated T1/T2 offenses (repeated cheating may become a T4 ban instead).
Inappropriate username (uses swears, slurs, sexual references, or is considered spam).
Inappropriate artwork on Undernet profile.
Encouraging the usage of cheats.
Suspicious activity.
Tier 4 (These will get you banned permanently, and they cannot be appealed):
Predatory activity (i.e. sharing or trying to obtain personal information of another person).
Malicious activity that negatively affects the experience of other players.
Severe or attempted game tampering.
Sharing or encouraging to share/obtain decompiled source code of the game.
Intense bullying that severely affects a targeted player (i.e. encouraging them to harm themselves).
Repeat offense of cheating (speedhacks, stat manipulation, etc).
Repeat offense after a successful appeal.
Withholding reports to use as blackmail.
Impersonation of a member of the DF team.
Ban evasion.
After submitting an appeal, it may take some time for an admin to be able to respond to it. Please have some patience - we are just a group of Undertale fans working on a fan-game in our free time, we are not a professional studio and moderating is not our jobs. We will respond when we can.
Once we have processed your ban appeal, your post will be moved to either the "Approved Appeals" channel if it was accepted, or the "Denied Appeals" channel if it was denied. In the "Denied Appeals" channel, there is a post with more information about what you can do after your appeal is denied.
That should cover our ban systems for DFC and our Discord server. If you have any further questions, feel free to respond to this post with them. Thank you for your time.
