The story of this game doesn't have anything to do with other stories like Zalgo, X, Exetior, Exeller or anything related. Sonic's clone doesn't even have a name here, being refered as "???" in dialogue cutscenes. The only "X" present in the game is a cameo character.
It started as a college project, which consisted in developing a Halloween themed game.
Despite being the good ending of the Sonic.exe story, the name "Sonic: The Second Round" is not because of it. But rather, something Sonic says later in the game.
"Last Chance - Act 0" is the only stage the players can lose their lives. In the rest of the game, they are infinite.
When choosing Sonic in the Data Select screen, you can hear one of five reversed voice messages which plays randomly.
There won't be a third round/Round3.exe, because there is no need to bring Sonic's doppelganger back in a sequel. He is GONE. FOREVER! Despite being the Second Round, it's the FINAL ROUND. THE END.
I'm writing the full game's story, telling what happened way before (a prologue of a prologue, I guess) and the current moments.
There was going to be a music theme for the Green Hill (Showdown) stage, but we thought it was better to keep without any music playing, to give some "uncanny" feeling.
Initially, after saving Tails, there was going to be a cutscene in which he sees Sonic and thinks it's his doppelganger. Similar to a scene in Dragon Ball Super, which Future Trunks sees Goku and mistakes him for Goku Black.
All voice clips were recorded by me, including the backwards messages and Sonic's "I'm outta here!".
Sonic Adventure was one of the inspirations for this game's story, since it involves the Chaos Emeralds' positive and negative energies.

The two copyrighted tracks has been replaced now, along with a few tweaks in animations and gameplay. Now you can jump higher while running up a slope.
Small changes were made in opening scene, including an emphasis in the "not a remake" part.
