The fedora kid is an important character in The Return to Freddy's. TRTF Fans, however, have different interpretations of who this kid really is, and how his character plays out.

When it comes to talking about the story of The Return to Freddy's, I try to look at it consistently. You can have your own interpretation, this is how I interpret his character.

What we know about him

Well, for starters, in old lore.txt we know that his name is Tyler. He also has other titles such as "BFP" and "Fedora kid"

We also know that he is the kid who dies inside of the lockjaw suit. He's also described to put his soul inside of the puppet, this is backed up as well by the happiest moment of my life minigame in TRTF 3.

We have seen multiple times that Gron regards this kid as his son (as seen in TRTF 5 minigames and teasers). In the TRTF 5 teaser game "protect your son", Gron is seen attempting to help this child (as the name suggests), the title regards him as Gron's son.

In the TRTF 5 "Happy Fun Times..." minigame, Gron is also seen shielding the kid's eyes from the beast. Showing that Gron cared about this child.

There is a teaser for TRTF 5 including Tyler and Gron, with the text "I am just as insane as you daddy". In this image he is regarding the jester as his father.

We know however that Gron already has two children. Their names are Jackson and Charles. We know Jackson grows up and becomes carson's father. We also know that Charles commits suicide as seen in the "December 28th" flashback.

How is the fedora kid Gron's son?

If Gron has two children, who aren't Tyler. How does fedora kid being the jester's son work? Well, I think an explanation for this is simply, the fedora kid was adopted after the death of Charles.

While there is not actually much to back up Gron adopting a child. The kid is seen around Gron like he is his son, when we see them together, it's already when Gron has become insane. We never see Tyler and Gron's other kids either together in minigames either, implying that Tyler came into the picture after Gron's other kids left. I don't think he can be Charles however, because they have different names and different deaths.

I think Tyler is meant to look like Charles however, due to it being described before that Tyler looks like a younger version of Gron. I think it's possible that Gron adopted Tyler because he looked like Charles, so he let him into his house and became his father to fill the void that Charles left in Gron's life. We see that Tyler is even wearing the same fedora that Gron gifted his son on Christmas.

How does he die?

We see inconsistent deaths for BFP in the story. We see him get chained up to a wall by Gron, we see him get kidnapped by Vincent, and we see him die inside the Lockjaw suit. I think all of these events do happen, only one of them actually killed him however.

In goldieparadiner, during a mental episode, Gron would take Tyler into a bunker and then torture him. We see this in TRTF 3 and 4. However this is not what killed Tyler. We know from old Lore.txt and other minigames that he survived this attack and managed to get away.

Now, what location does he really die in? Personally, i think he is murdered at Frankburt's pizza. In a trtf 3 minigame "FBP", we see that Tyler is at Frankburt's pizza. This minigame ends when Vincent walks towards Tyler, this to me implies that this is right before Tyler is kidnapped, or atleast Vincent spotting tyler before he tortures him.

In the TRTF 3 ending, we see that Tyler is in Fredbear's family diner (the trtf 2 location), and Vincent is seen punching him, which leads Tyler to run away from Vincent to hide inside the Lockjaw suit. While the layout of the minigame is Fredbear's, we know that Fredbear's family diner used to be a Frankburt's family diner building.

I think Tyler was killed by Vincent while they were at Frankburt's after the event that was Tyler being tortured by his father. I think Vincent saw Tyler and remembered him as the kid Gron was torturing, so he attempted to kill the kid to finish what his best friend, the jester, had started. When attempting to kill Tyler, the child went inside of the Lockjaw suit and was tortured by the suit until he died.

How does his possession work?

Tyler is seen being killed inside the Lockjaw suit, but we also see that he possesses the puppet. The puppet in TRTF 1 is seen giving life to the other animatronics, making them kill the night guard. In TRTF 3's post night cutscenes, we also see Shadow Lockjaw (who I believe to be the spirit of Lockjaw), giving the other animatronics in Fredbear's life, just like the Puppet in TRTF 1.

In the dreadful truth Tyler splits up his soul into the other animatronics, and makes them kill people. I think it's safe to say that this is the same thing happening in the games. We see that the puppet and shadow lockjaw are responsible for waking up the other Animatronics, which could be Tyler putting his soul into the other animatronics bringing them life.

We know that other kids are murdered by Vincent however, as seen in the minigames. So how is Tyler the one possessing them? I think other children were indeed murdered, I think they were indeed stuffed into the other suits. However, I do not think they are the ones making the animatronics kill. I think they are forced to watch as the puppet child is making their bodies kill kids. So I think other kids do possess the animatronics, but I do not think they are the ones making the animatronics kill, I think the puppet is the one making them kill.

Once the body inside Lockjaw is found, Tyler's soul is set free, I think the other children were not allowed to be free until the fedora kid, the spirit trapping the other children within the suits, was set free. We see in "The happiest moment of my life" minigame, that the other children don't drop their masks until The Fedora Kid walks up to them.

How is this kid so important in universe?

I think BFP is a result of the prophecy, while not biologically related to Gron, he looks like a younger version of Gron. I think the kid exists, because the realization that Gron was torturing this child is what led Gron to commit suicide in the Golden Lockjaw suit, which was something that needed to happen to fulfill the prophecy.

I think he is so spiritually powerful in comparison to the other children, because he lived the hardest life, and his connection to Gron Takaliken made him important in the prophecy, making him spiritually powerful.

The Takalikens seem to be important to the prophecy, which is one of the reasons I assume Alison Bairren hates them so much. This is backed up by the fact that, The torture device looks like Gron, there is a statue of a woman who looks like Lynda in Fazbear INC, and Carson Takaliken is the one who ends up fulfilling the prophecy. I think this applies to the Fedora kid because of his connection to Gron Takaliken.

So yeah, that is my take on the fedora kid's character. I want to clarify that I don't think this was necessarily what Tyler was intending, but more so a way to clean up inconsistencies with what he wrote. Thank you for reading.
