Hey everyone!
First, thank you to all the recent followers and players who’ve recently downloaded my game. And thank you to Gamejolt for featuring it!
I have had a pretty fair amount of comments about the tutorial level, specifically, about the difficulty and lack of checkpoints. I will be addressing this issue very shortly, and wanted to get some opinions from you all!
Right now, the current tutorial is difficult, fast-paced, and not very forgiving of mistakes. This is all intended, but I don’t want players to be frustrated or turned off by the opening of the game. After multiple attempts and finally completing the first level, I wanted players to be very comfortable and familiar with the somewhat unique controls. So far, most play tests I’ve held or gameplay videos I’ve watched have confirmed this to be the case.
For the full game release, I am planning on having a short tutorial segment before the events of the fire. This part will allow players to play at their own pace with no hurry or difficulty. Although I am intentionally making the game CHALLENGING, I do not want it to be frustrating. With that in mind, what do you all think? Should I put a checkpoint in the middle of the current tutorial level (the fire chase scene)? Or do you think a slow-paced, relaxed tutorial level before the current one will be enough to prepare players to tackle the more difficult fire chase scene?
Thanks again to everyone who’s checked it out! I’ll talk to you soon!
