Twitter users have found "the best fucking reason" to cancel one of the least confrontational indie developers. (I know I'm kinda late with this topic, but I have things to say about it)

The Twitter situation regarding Undertale and the lack of a Latin American localization is certainly one of the dumbest arguments I've seen there indirectly thanks to its online reach.

I'll give a brief overview. The fact Toby doesn't harbor any animosity toward ANYONE based on language or their country, and isn't making an official translation because he simply doesn't know their language and doesn't want to make any ridiculous mistakes that would change his original vision, is an ABSOLUTELY OBVIOUS FACT TO EVERYONE, which I thought needed no explanation.

In any case, any fan can translate the game into any language they know, understanding all its subtleties and ensuring the author's vision is not distorted, and I KNOW that similar fan translations exist in Latin American languages. (At least, I've seen Undertale in Brazilian Portuguese) And Toby himself said there's nothing bad in their existence and he supports them.

(Btw, there were lots of people from South American countries in the comment section who also who were also perplexed by the situation and said it's not worth postponing or changing initial plans because of some other people's claims if you're just making your games and plan to release them as soon as possible for fans)

And if we talk about how it all started, the announcement of a concert that won't take place specifically in South American countries... What a problem! We live in a time when you can watch it online from anywhere in the world, like it was in 2020.

Come on, people, I'm from Russia, and we've never had official events for UT, but we do have fan localizations and we host themed events with our content creators for this game. We watch some official events in English, and we're happy with everything.

I personally don't care whether the translation is official or fan-made, the important thing is that it exists and someone can play the game with it. It doesn't really matter to me; I play a lot of games in English, even if there are already some fan translations into Russian or Ukrainian.

Also, I've been meaning to say this for a while, but it seems like Twitter itself has become really scary for mental health, god dammit. The community there truly shocks me with its toxicity and desire to pick on ANYONE for SUCH FAR-FETCHED AND IDIOTICAL reasons that only THEY give a fuck about while everyone else don't. I'm not there, and I don't want to deal with those who sit there and take part in these ridiculous "battles."

If you think you have any power over the people around you then, surprise, you don't. And your attempts to "shame" someone who has only displeased you in some way, even though they have no criminal record, are futile; you only embarrass yourself further. Those who were seen with real skeletons in their closets were exposed primarily by those who had personal dealings with them, and given the reasons behind them, no one really wants to deal with those canceled. (Shay and UnderPlay, specifically in the Undertale fandom.) But knowing those who were "cancelled" for less compelling reasons (Phil Morg and Scott Cawthon, for example), it's simply mind-boggling to realize how confident someone can be in their ability to meddle in other people's affairs and their minimal power over others, even though their "power" ends the moment their phone dies.

It just so happens that anyone can be "canceled" for something no one expects. If I were "canceled" for the same reasons, I wouldn't care at all. I wouldn't lose anything, just like many others who were "canceled," but no one turned their backs on them, and they continue to peacefully go about their business online and in real life. I'll tell you more, I'll even partially gain from this, because that's the true essence of Punk that I am — to be someone who will be loved, someone who will be hated, but who remains themselves with their ruff style and lives good for themselves no matter what. And speaking completely frankly, I'm gonna say EVERYTHING I deem necessary, and I WON'T apologize for some words from 10 years ago that were nothing more than a joke, which even at the time was kinda stupid, and I knew it perfectly, as does everyone else, but for which they now love trying to "shame" someone.

Hey, I'm 17 now, and even years from now I'll still have every right to joke around however I want. I already don't like making jokes about politics or current trends, brainrot, saccharine behavior, online censorship, social anxiety, and not wanting to look for a job; it just pisses me off. And should I tell you most people change a lot through the years and shaming them for something they did many years ago would be reasonable if it's some serious crime for which they were already accused THEN?

And just in case anyone doesn't get the obvious, I want to remind you: NO ONE in their right mind would dislike anyone because of their race, gender, age, nationality, orientation, language, eye color, hair color, or any other trait you love to focus on. Everyone is judged by their actions, and if someone DIDN'T do something, then why even bother judging them? And just because they don't talk about it doesn't mean they're harboring any biases. I never thought I'd have to explain this to anyone, and I'm not the only one who's confused. We seem to live peacefully, don't interfere in each other's personal affairs, and everyone is happy, but even so, someone on Twitter can see something "off" and come up with even more absurd ideas, without regard for how others perceive them.

I'm aware that there are many people who are also unhappy with the so-called "cancel culture," and I'm completely on your side, given how it manifests itself these days. Heck, we lived without it 10-20 years ago, and everyone was more at peace, right? Seriously, I've seen more downsides to it since then, both in the Western market and in some places in Russia, although things are still a bit more relaxed here. I've been wanting to speak out about all this for a long time, but this situation became the final chord for this.

Just use the internet FOR ITS INTENDED USE and everything will be fine for you and everyone else. And I hope Toby will be fine and will continue developing his games without pressure.
