In celebration of UNDERTALE’s 2 year anniversary we had decided to release a devlog we actually planned for an update later on, yesterday. However due to issues we had to move it to today so see this as a late anniversary celebration?
Beware this is quite a lenghty devlog but filled to the brim with content we assure will be worth going trough.
REMINDER: Not exactly everything here either is finalized and will likely go trough alterations trough out development of the project and advancing of skill.
Programming
How about we start with probably the most important part of the entire project: The Programming.
Slowly the demo has been getting some work done, recently having put more work into working on the battle engine and the battles that go with it. Rooms have also been getting some work done however seeing as a lot of layout changes and puzzles need to be designed this has mostly been untouched.
Writing
Some of the game’s writing has changed a lot the past couple of weeks and several encounters and events are gonna be/have been rewritten. Temmie’s encounter, for example, is planned to go entirely differently from how it did originally. My lips will be sealed for now about it however but you bet your sorry butt you’re gonna see some of this in the very near future.
Assets + Re-design Reveal…
We’ll start off by showing off something i bet no one really expected to get a revision; The menu!
Yep! The menu has gone trough quite the change compared to Undertale, hasn’t it? Unfortunately this is all we’ll be revealing since there’s more to this menu than you may think on first glance. It would be a shame to spoil everything anyway, right?
The battle buttons have seen some revisioning as well by one of our greatest newest addition to the team: Junnboi! The old ones simply didn’t meet today’s standards and Junn was more than willing to give em the good ol update.
We’d also like to present to you some of the sprite work on the Mad Dummy!
This knife enthusiast comes equipped with beautiful shading by Junnboi and the combined talents of Granpris and Chip Potato.
And now for the design reveal…

Of Sans!
Sans’ has been recently redesigned by the combined efforts of Junnboi, Kalin, and the rest of the art team to fit more for what we plan to do with him and to nicely go along with his brother’s as well!
[To fully detail his design before people assume this design is simply Sans with a cape and bandana:
Grey cape that serves as a scarf as well.
Blue short sleeved jacket with short rounded sleeves (to somewhat resemble the shoulder plates from the original designs) [NOT A HOODIE]
Grey belt with little storage compartments for ketchup bags and smoke bombs.
White shirt.
Dark blue shorts with lighter blue lining.
White socks with pink slippers.
Grey mittens.]
Rather than trying to join the Royal Guard, Sans takes matters into his own mittens and fights the good fight by himself!
The amazing art portraying Sans trough out most of this devlog have been drawn with love by our amazing artist, Vincent!
A lot of sprites have also gone trough a full overhaul! Characters like presented here now have their own color coded outlines and updated shading as well as making the sprites a lot more compact and up to date and we have the bros here as an example as well to show for it. Kalin, Junn, and the rest of the art team have had a very busy week masterfully crafting these amazing sprites.
We certainly hope most people will be happy with this decision! The old design simply didn’t work out for what we currently plan to do with Sans in the game so i hope all of you will be able to understand <3
