The player had been through many different runs. They eventually settled on a pacifist route. After saving friends, making dreams, and holding hopes, the player beat Asriel.
Sitting all the way through the credits of the best ending, then reloading the game right after; the player found Flowey. The player decided to take Flowey's advice and quit the game.
Frisk was now free to do whatever they wanted. They were free to say the things they've always wanted to say, be the person they always planned to be! Frisk would talk with Chara in almost every waking moment. Together, they eventually decided Asriel had to come with them on the surface.
Once Frisk fetched Flowey from the underground, they revealed Chara's ever-watchful presence.
While Chara couldn't be seen or heard by anyone but Frisk, that didn't stop the trio from spending all their time together.
One day, Flowey was feeling incredibly low and empty. He began to vent to an empty room, hoping Chara was listening. They were.
He talked about how his recent taste of empathy being snatched away had left him in a solemn sadness. He knew Frisk cared for him deeply, and would probably RESET if anything happened to him. Yet, he began to feel like that didn't matter anymore. He didn't matter. Everyone had moved on, who would miss him?
Flowey was about to make a horrific mistake. Chara was in arms reach, but out of view. Deep withing Chara, they found the DETERMINATION to help their best friend. And for once, it was their own.
...
[I used the Last Dream. My HP has been fully restored.]
Flowey stopped suddenly. His petals ripped and torn, his stem inches away from a large red thorn; intent on cutting him clean.
He couldn't believe his eyes. Chara was right their in front of him. Tears in their eyes, desperation on their face, light in their SOUL.
... Their SOUL?
Weren't they sharing Frisk's soul?

[Chara, LV 1, HP 20, AT 0 (0), DF 0 (0). I couldn't just leave you all alone, best friend.]
This SOUL looked familiar. It shown in a rainbow, trailing a white glow wherever it went. It was a monster SOUL, or so it appeared to be. There's never been a monster SOUL that's look like this.
Frisk burst into their bedroom. They had left Flowey alone for too long! Frisk's fear and panic swiftly changed to surprise and confusion. Suddenly, they realised what had happened.
A 'Last Dream' from their inventory was missing, and Chara's new SOUL resembled it exactly!
Chara's DETERMINATION to save Asriel helped them use the Last Dream. With enough willpower, the Last Dream could grant any wish. Chara's only wish was to save their friend. The Last Dream made that possible by becoming a new SOUL.
... If it worked for Chara, would it work for Asriel?
Frisk swiftly opened the box in their room. Shuffling through the MTT Toriel plushies and the large assortment of rubix cubes, until they finally found what they were looking for. A small cluster of Last Dreams.
Frisk gave one to Asriel, and told him to wish with all his power. He did, and the Last Dream made a SOUL for him too.
Chara wasn't completely Human, and Asriel wasn't completely Monster. But that didn't matter anymore. Ghost or no ghost, flower or no flower, they were back.
