It’s been a pretty productive day here at Jetpack Romeo,
we’ve been hard at work on upgrading our new lighting system by creating a new plugin within our game engine to allow this to happen.
Also, we’ve been pondering if we should be switching over our engines from RPG Maker VX Ace to RPG Maker MV, the newest installation to the RPG Maker Game Engine series.
Switching over to MV can be a massive up and down for us. Firstly, it’ll allow us to create a higher resolution product and not “super pixelate” our game. Another thing, switching over to MV allows Developers like us to create plugins using the Javascript code rather then Ruby which is what all of us are mostly proficient in, this allows us to expand our creative process for the game as we can basically create anything imaginable!
However, this is all too good to be true! Switching over from one game engine to another can be a big big huge hassle, especially mid-development, which is why we’ve been sitting on the idea and really debating on it.
MV also allows us to deploy and push our game in multiple platforms such as Windows, Mac OSX, Android and iOS App Markets without extensive work and porting that VX Ace would require.
If a demo were to be released and we were to switch over to MV, we would make sure we would deploy the game via the new game engine we’ll be using.
We’ll keep you posted!
