For prior context on what this game is, check out the associated blog post: https://redcoolhax.neocities.org/blog/2026/february/
In terms of current progress, I've already got a bit done. The attached video shows what I've made so far. It might look a little... uh... 'abstract', to say the least, but it has a good chunk of the building blocks for the main gameplay.
Here you can see the hook being controlled by the player (who is currently only me) via the arrow keys. You might notice the stamina bar in the top-left corner of the screen, which corresponds to the hook's upward movement. Speaking of, when starting off, the hook's upward movement is a gradual acceleration, but once it attaches to the item at the bottom of the screen, it becomes more of an abrupt jump.
Now, in terms of what needs to be added? Well, for the main gameplay, I'll still need:
Obstacles like sealife to viciously attack your hook like beasts that haven't been fed in over 100 years.
A win condition once you pull the item to the top.
Actual sprites and animations.
Some other tweaks.
Kind of a tall order (from me to myself), but I'll keep at it. Stay tuned!
