You might have been linked here because one of your posts broke the rules outlined below.
The game development (gamedev) community has been growing and growing over the past few months, so to make sure we (mods) can keep up, here are some basic rules/guidelines for members to follow when it comes to posting.
Please take your time to read through them, so that we can create a great place to share game development stuff on Game Jolt! Thanks in advance
Upfront: your post has to be about game development.
Posts simply about gaming should only be posted if they have some relation to game development as well.
Your post also has to be in ENGLISH. This is to make moderation of the community easier and ensures that everybody can read and understand your post.
Channel overview
general - Anything that doesn't fit the other channels can be posted here: Discussions, asset sharing, links to cool gamedev stuff you found, etc.
Keep in mind that even in the general channel, posts have to relate to game development in some way.
show and tell - Show off images, gifs and/or videos of a level, asset, character, code or other stuff you've created.
You can also show off your game here to get more people to follow/play it, but please do so responsibly, and it'd be cool if you could also share something about the development process of the game instead of just posting "hey, this is my game, please follow it".
questions - If you have a question about game development, where to find free/paid assets or which type of enemy is best for your horror game, this is the place! You can create polls, ask open ended questions and encourage discussion.
Please read below which types of posts you should avoid posting to this channel.
screenshotsaturday - As the name implies, share screenshots (and also gifs/videos) about recent things you've created for your game/project. But only on Saturday (your timezone)!
A good idea is also to tag your posts with #screenshotsaturday.
Similar to show and tell, you may share these posts from your game or link them, but don't just use this channel as a springboard to advertise your game.
If you happen to create a post in the incorrect channel, the mods will do their best to move it to the correct channel, but please keep in mind that if you do this multiple times/on purpose, you might get blocked.
Posts you should avoid
There are some posts that are either very common or unfit for this community. Here are some examples.
Posts not related to game development
"Countdown" posts - posting every day how many days are left until your release your game or an update, unless you provide insightful information about the development of your game.
Simple "game update" posts - Unless you got stuff to share about the development of your game, simply posting "Hey, version 1.0.4 of my game is out, and these things have changed" is probably not about game development on its own.
"Please follow me/this user" - You can give shout outs when they make sense, like when you built something with assets of another user. However just making a post because you want someone to get more followers is not related to game dev and it will get ejected.
"How do I make a game?" - Everybody has to start somewhere, but please understand that these questions are tough to answer, and you should try to seek out material yourself and try to build a foundation. There are tons of assets available out there that can help you get into game development. A good start is to search "unity game tutorial" or similar and following along.
Similarly, very broad questions like "which engine should I choose". You should try and do research yourself on this topic, and ask more specific questions when you want insight from other game developers.
Very specific posts about your game - Example: "Which enemy on level 4-1 should I give a sword to?". Remember that not all people know about your game, and maybe you should create a community for your game instead and ask these questions there.
Multiposting to the gamedev community just to get more people to see your post. If the post is about game development, it's fine, but otherwise please refrain from doing this. You will be blocked for "off-topic".
Posts that break theses rules/guidelines will be ejected, and repeat offenders will be blocked from the community for a while.
If you have any suggestions or comments on these rules, feel free to leave a comment on this post, I will try to answer as many as I can.
This set of rules might get updated/changed over time.
