Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeello everybody!
This week is a very special week for me! On October 27th I will turn 18. Which is quite amazing :P Time really does fly by.
However second of all, October 26th (tomorrow) is the anniversary of Welcome to the Mansion Remastered. Tomorrow it has exactly been one year since I started working on WttMR!
Which is quite an achievement for me, if I say so myself :) To celebrate this, I will show you some unused content from the original Welcome to the Mansion, and I will even publish the very first version of it right here! For you guys to experience :)
Home Alone (Welcome to the Mansion 0.001)
As you might know, I made WttM for a Dutch game contest. However a few weeks before I decided to enter I already started working on an idea. It was a very weird concept that I created thanks to the Slenderman influence at the time :)
I saw my game as a 2d Slender game where you would be dropped in a big mansion, and your goal was to collect a certain amount of things to win, without the Killer finding you.
So this game was planned to be a 2 player game. One player controlled the killer, the other the player (who would later be known as Marc). I called the game Home Alone for a lack of a better title. And yes, I was aware of the films with the same name :P It was just a place holder.
You can see that a lot of sprites in this game had been carried over to the Welcome to the Mansion you know and love. This game however didn’t feature any story or other characters. It was just a game of tag.
The reason Welcome to the Mansion has this small resolution also carried over from the first build. Me as a 14 year old, who didn’t know much about coding, didn’t know how to make a big area without lagging everything out. So what I did was make every sprite as small as possible. So I didn’t have to worry about speeding my game up. This decision just carried over to Welcome to the Mansion.
So I prepared this game for you to try out! I didn’t change much, and there’s little to do. But it can give you a nice view of what I was going for :)
Download Zip file here: (1.6MB)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. This game uses music from Luigi’s Mansion. Midi’s to be exact! So please don’t sue me Nintendo!
Cut Content:
So Welcome to the Mansion went through a lot of changes during development. However it slowly took its shape, as you know it now.
Instead of talking about the new versions of the game, I’m going to show the stuff that I left out of it! And believe me, some of these are for the better ;)
The Jump scare Cake
A thing I tended to do in the development stages was creating unfair Jump scares. One of them occurred while inspecting a regular cake.
You would inspect the cake, and the killer would just jump out of it :) I didn’t put this in to the game, since I actually just forgot to do so. However I did use the code in other situations. Like in the final game, when you look at a bed that moves, the killer jumps out. Or in the Sewers where the killer jumps out of the water.
You’re Watching Jump scare TV
Like the really unfair cake, I also decided to create an unfair tv. When you turned it on, it would have a chance of 50% to turn into Killer TV.
It just meant that the killer would crawl out of the tv and kill you :P
Teleporting Vacuum Cleaner
There was something else, left over from the very first game, that I didn’t use. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to, it was because I didn’t know how to make it work properly.
I wanted to make a teleportation system in game, so you didn’t have to walk back from an area after completing it. I wanted to use the vacuum cleaner for it. Yeah you heard me right! 14 year old me thought that a vacuum cleaner would be a good way of transportation XD
Hidden Rooms
You know how in the final game the killer sais that you need to flush the toilet six times before you can enter the Sewers. First he said nothing about no toilet. You had to find a hidden room, which had cryptic drawings on a wall that represented toilets. It was too cryptic however and I was afraid people would never figure it out :) So that’s why it had been left out.
(Btw please don’t mind the font. It’s messed up because I’m running this game on a different computer)
I also made a test room to test the different floors. Here are some pics:
Forgetting my Name
There was another thing that I was planning on putting in the game but also simply forgot. Namely my own Logo and animation.
It would’ve played when you booted up the game, and would last for 10 seconds. So I’m kinda glad I didn’t put it in :P
Q & A?
So that was all the retrievable content that I cut from the original game :) Of course I had a lot more ideas that didn’t make it, but I don’t have enough time to talk about all of that. So there’s another idea I had. Ask me anything about myself, or about my games and I will answer it! Curious why I created Marc’s friends? Always wanted to know why Marc is so sexy? Or why I started creating games? You can ask me now! (Just kidding about the sexy part though…)
Just post a comment down here, and I will answer it! ;) I’m looking forward to your responses!
Last words:
I have been typing for a while now and my fingers are starting to hurt. However it’s all worth it as long as you enjoyed this post :) I can’t thank you enough for your support and friendliness! If you want to stay in contact with me, you can follow me on twitter @Jmastaa I would love it if you did :)
Once again thank you so much for reading trough this huge pile of text,
