Welcome to the devlog for Super Ketchup Catcher. I’m not sure how many of these I actually need to make because the game is nearly finished, but we’ll see how far we get.
Here’s a screenshot for you that pretty much sums up a lot of the game:
You’ll see a couple things here of note. First, the Hunger meter. You need to get that down to zero to win the level.
Next is the Stack meter. This tells you a couple things. You can hold up to three bottles of ketchup (on this level). The more bottles you have in your stack before you press the drink button, the more points go towards lowering your Hunger meter. However, if you happen to catch another bottle while you’re stack is full, you’ll drop the whole stack. Yes, that’s where some of the challenge comes into play.
Then there’s the Bottles meter. This tells you how many bottles there are left to catch in the level. Once the meter hits zero, you’ll lose if you haven’t already reduced your Hunger meter to zero.
You also can see Bob, Bean Bag Billy, and a bottle of ketchup flying towards them ready to be caught. You can’t really tell in this picture, but that bottle is moving pretty fast. I might upload some footage later to show you how fast-paced this game really is.
Oh, and don’t worry. You’re not going to get such a lengthy tutorial in the actual game. There’s a much shorter (and optional) tutorial that teaches you the very basics you need to play. Everything else becomes clear when you’re actually playing the game.
Well, that’s about it for now. I’ll make another devlog if something else comes up. Expect to play the game in the very near future. My wife’s going to playtest the game before I upload it, so you can rest assured it will be a quality release (she’s thorough when it comes to these things. One reason I love her so much).
