Lore (tren lore ye)

The name SU48 was "inspired" by SM48 (the polish TEM2 serial number)

SU48-001 prototype was built in 1989 it was called TEM2C-001 (the C standing for comfort) it was fitted with a AC unit more computerized cab and much more things that just made the life of the crew better the first livery it ever wore is also the only one it ever did being this light red-white livery the owner and idea creator was polregio (at the time known as przewozy regionalne) after long testing of the prototype it was given a name "mazowszanika" because it was stationed in warsaw there it got the finishing touches such as changing the factory name from TEM2C-001 to SU48-001 the total number of units produced was 87 a few years later the series got another model classified as SP48-001 the new model featured a steam heater with the AC unit being removed

As of this year (2025) only 28 SU48's remain in service model nr. 001 was bought by a railfan club for restoration and is now running with retro trains between warsaw and (idk how to translate it) wrocław

10 of these locomotives were fitted with broad gauge trucks (1520mm) and now are running under PKP lhs
