Wenches and Loot Devlog 1 "The Prologue"

This is the first time I have ever done one of these. To my understanding it is a journal of game development. We have been working on Wenches and Loot for about 10 going on 11 months.
My name is Eric I go by Jackripperz I am the Game Designer/programmer of the group. I have made games both board games an paper games since I was a child. I have a long history of game design and I love designing games its easily what makes me happiest. One day I got sick of working dead end jobs. I wanted to make something. I decided I wanted to finish a board game I had been working on. Easily had already thrown hundreds of hours into making and play-testing. I needed a artist though. So i the search began, and I reached out to Esteban aka Quintoki a long time childhood friend.
Quintoki felt pretty much the same as I did. Tired of working dead end jobs and wanted to try for something riskier but more fulfilling.
It started of as group exercise. We wanted to make a game to get used to each-others work habits before making a board game together. We thought it would only be a 2 month long process. We were wrong =/ . As we continued to make the game we decided that it was going to be the main project.
We went at it with a NO COMPROMISE attitude. If we thought of something cool that made sense we did it. No matter how hard or long it was gonna take. Wenches and Loot’s whole development process has followed that golden rule, NO COMPROMISE, no compromise on the programming and no compromise on the art.
We were very happy with the way it was coming together however, we felt that the music was not up to snuff with our standards. Luckily enough this is where we met Jon aka MetalJonus. He actually came up to us and asked us if we needed some music, we liked his stuff but weren’t 100% sure it would be a good fit. We sat down with him and gave him a rundown of the game. We told him it was a game about a guy who goes on an adventure for treasure and girls. We then showed him what we had at the time. He laughed and said he liked it. We told him what we imagined the tracks to sound like. Needless to say he did not disappoint at all.
So now we had grown to a team of 3 passionate developers. With little to no funding. There were weeks where me and Quintoki worked 12 hour days on the game only eating once because we didn’t have money to eat multiple times. Times were getting rough. Quintoki had to move in to my place and soon after his car broke down so he is unable to work on weekends with me doing food deliveries. With only a little cash coming it has made working on the game tense at times, but we never have lost our NO COMPROMISE attitude and we are really proud with where the game stands right now.
The game has a Romance system for characters in the game. Based on who you build relationships with it changes Jack aka main character abilities.
There is also heavier rpg elements that are being implemented. We currently have a gear system where Jack can change out his shoulders, helm, chest, gloves, pants, and boots. Different gear has different stats, allowing the player to build and play the way they want while looking awesome =).
This Devlog post is just to catch you guys up! I hope you enjoyed it. I will be posting more tomorrow! Working on reworking/implementing level design changes to the Tutorial. See you guys then!

"Our work is never over" they said.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

Horror WIP A track that will be featured in a future horror game soundtrack! Stay tuned!
