The first chapter of Citizen Plague has been out for a few days now and I have seen a few Lets Plays of it on YouTube. I absolutely and wholeheartedly love seeing that people have taken some time out of their day to play my game and enjoy it, albeit only partially. It seems as though I made some seriously rookie mistakes when it comes to development. Whilst the following mistakes may be annoyances, I am definitely very appreciative of you guys for pointing them out to me. YOU GUYS ROCK!
The mistakes in question are basic to say the least, but they seem to have affected the game experience quite dramatically. I am going to put that down to the game being a survival horror title.
Lighting: My monitor is unfortunately, immensely bright even on the lowest settings. This makes it extremely hard for me to accurately judge how bright/dark the game really is. This seems to have led to the game being way too dark. I am going to target and correct this problem for chapter two by using an external monitor for testing!
Navigation: This one is simple and 100% my fault. As a developer, I know exactly where to go, how long it takes me to get there and what is going to happen both on the way there and when I reach my destination. The players however…Do not. I need to test more. A LOT MORE! And I will because I want you guys to get the best experience you can from the game.
Player speed and controls: Whilst he game does feature a sprint feature (left shift key), not many players seem to have realised this and that is my fault again, for not mentioning the controls in some kind of tutorial. I also wish to increase the player speed as I fear that my game may became yet another boring waking simulator (Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Amnesia: a Machine for Pigs). I will also, as mentioned above, add a tutorial to each new chapter of the game starting with chapter too.
These lessons were desperately needed and I’m so thankful to you guys for teaching me them!
Thank you so much for playing my game and for rating it so highly. You awesome guys are the reason I’m doing this!
HAVE A GREAT DAY GUYS!
