What is happening to Jumbletale?

(Edit: I was clinging SO hard onto this game holy crap????)


Well- I've made a decision, and this decision is: Jumbletale will not be getting a full release. I will talk about what would've been and what's going to happen instead in this post. The thing is: I can't pretend I can complete this. It won't ever be done.

1: What will happen instead

To the people who were anticipating the release of Jumbletale, I will probably create something to release (Gaster Fight, Spider Area Demo, etc.). Just know that I will not create a full game. I don't want people's hard work to go to waste.

2: What would've been

Jumbletale was a very ambitous project. It was wildly different from Undertale, and the gameplay was going to be very unique.

Characters -
Monster kid was actually going to be flowey instead. Let me explain this design. Monster kid was not going to be evil, he was actually going to be helpful, and he was actually going to be a tutorial. There were plans for you to actually see muffet first, and monster kid afterwards. He would be just as immature as he was in undertale, and he would still admire Undyne. I'll cover Undyne's role in a bit.

Muffet was going to be your caretaker, but they also have a sinister side. She would have her pet and she would only start attaching to you once she figures out you love spiders (which she misunderstands from one of your encounters.) She is not very kind at first, but she gets nicer and nicer. The battle sequence happens because in her mindset, if you are going to be gone, you might as well go to good use in a cake, right?

After that, you finally meet Gaster. Gaster is actually my least favorite character. The way I originally designed him was very lazy, and now I'm kind of stuck with him. He would be a big fan of science, and because he never shows his face to people at work (which is online, by the way), nobody knows he's really the genius Gaster. He actually doesn't go by gaster at first, instead saying he's Khal (which a spin on Calibri). He would be the father of sans and Papyrus, kind of like how it is in Handplates. He built mettaton and he only opens up and reveals his secrets after a while. This character arch was designed thinking that nobody would recognize him as Gaster. However, no matter what I do to change his design, people will still recognize him. He's still a sans clone because there's nothing else I could do to make him unique and differentiate him from Papyrus, who I'm a little bit more fond of, but still not a big fan.

Mettaton is a really hilarious design. She's one of my favorites. She changed into a superfan of all things fashion, and she has a youtube channel where she covers fashion and does vlogs. She also is really into movies and baking, so I'm sure there could be a lot of fun references and universe building to be had here. She was built by gaster as a hobby, and although it's not in her programming, she's still obsessed with murdering humans. She doesn't realize you're a human until near the end of this world, where she tries to get a video of you to post to her youtube. This becomes kinda scary to me in the genocide route where you kill her. She was designed as a girl because I didn't know she was a guy until surprisingly recently.

Alphys is a design that makes no sense- for some reason she became a chef (She was previously going to replace muffet, but undyne does that now). Not too much to say about this one.

Okay- sans was a very boring character before I redesigned him and he still kinda is. He has an eskimo version of his normal coat and no eyepatch- I'm glad I got rid of his eyepatch. He's still really lazy, and he doesn't do his job very well. Usually, when you encounter he's sleeping or he just tells you to stop. At the end he does put up some kind of fight, but then he just falls asleep and you get out. In the genocide route, he suddenly has a vision that you go on to kill his brother (which would have an awesome, creepy cutscene where his eyes would become blue), and he gives you the bad time he's so well known for.

Questionable decision from a long time ago- frisk and chara are the temmies. I don't know how else to comment on this. All I can say is

W H A T

I kind of forgot who replaced monster kid until now. Toriel and Asgore would be the monster kids- plural. I guess they would be kids, idk? Maybe they wouldn't, because apparently Asriel is mettaton ex and flowey is mettaton? What? I don't remember designing these. Maybe asriel would be a seperate goat person in this game, i dunno. I won't cover mettaton or mettaton ex in this, then.

Papyrus is the design that I really like the execution of- not so much the idea. He has little glasses that you can't see his eyes through because of glare, and his suit doesn't fit him. In this universe, he was inspired by his dad instead of undyne, making him really dedicated to science.

Undyne is a boring character, kind of just normal undyne- I explored concepts of making onionsan helping them in battle, but I'm not sure about it.

You know about mettaton already so I won't explain them.

And that brings us to the king of monsters- Grillby. He's got a side-passion of cooking, and that's all I know about him. I thought about basing him off of fire gods from mythology, kings who had things to do with fire, and many other ideas. He is the least-fleshed out character I have made.

The final character is Grillby's daughter. Tutiki. Pretty sure the name was based after something, but I don't remember. This character is not super fleshed out but they do have a design: It would obviously be the green fire school girl in hotlands... or at least it's obvious to me because the character was always kinda special to me. I always saw them as grillby's daughter and I wish they were expanded upon. They could be so interesting if they were expanded upon- but they were left a lifeless husk. They were always supposed to be a side character, so it makes sense.

Chara's design has been lost because of my memory- I completely forgot, but I do remember they weren't a human.

And the gaster replacement- Napstablook. I like this decision. Kind of.

Pixelart-

There's a lot of completed pixelart- I'll show all of it that wasn't sadly lost from my old computer. For example, there was some pixelart of monster kid that would've been exciting but it was lost. I saved a bit for later, if you don't see it it's not too important.

That's all of that, though.

I'll release a part 2 with an explanation of gameplay and some other things another time.

Would you guys be satisfied with just a gaster fight? THIS IS FOR THE POLL! It'd probably be made in clickteam, for fun instead of for you guys this time. Maybe there's going to be some smaller passion projects in the future, not as big as this. Equ-path is going to finally exist.
