Hello everyone! My name is Jason, a.k.a. The Deadly Cherry. Rockball 2 is a 3D platformer where you must roll, jump, and navigate through 10 (currently) levels, each with it’s own theme and music track! As the title suggests, this is indeed a sequel to a game I made back in 2014, Rockball. This was the last game I made before being plunged into many issues IRL, which put me into a 4 year hiatus on anything game development related. Last March, however, I have found the time to pick up on my passion once again, and I wanted to make something simple and do-able as my first project back. Looking back on my older projects (all of which have been taken down), I saw Rockball, the last game I made, and decided to boot it up for some motivation. I then came to realize how basic and broken the game was. The game had a whopping 5-ish textures used throughout the entire game, no music, one or two sound effects, and the worst part is, there was an AWFUL bug in the game where jumping wouldn’t work sometimes. This turned super easy platform jumps into nearly impossible trials, where players would be smashing their spacebars praying one of those button presses registered with the player.
After seeing the mess I left, I decided I had to do what was right. So I made a sequel, with the goal being to improve on the original in every way. And from what the results show, I think I succeeded in that. These improvements are:
10 Levels, all with their own theme and background track, as opposed to the original’s 5 levels that were all the same bland “theme”.
Great soundtrack (composed by @AznOmega on Instagram!) compared to the original, which had no background music and only 1 or 2 sound effects.
Limited gamepad support (Haven’t gotten it to work in menus just yet, but fully functional in the actual game), with the original having no support at all. I do recommend a controller for this game if you have one on hand!
For anyone looking to give this game a try, it is available now on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
I do indeed plan to do more work on this game before putting it down and moving on to my next project. I have a few minor updates so far, but soon I want to add more content to this game, in the form of new expansions, as well as other quality of life updates, so if this project interests you somehow, be sure to follow, as I will be posting more soon! Currently working on a nice update for the game, as well as putting together an official trailer to promote it more.
And as most indie game developers are, I’m 100% okay with people playing and monetizing content about this game as well as any of my future projects, too. I would love to see someone attempt to beat this game, as this was made to be a more challenging experience for people, and I have only seen 1 other person complete this game.
Thank you so much for your time, and I hope you enjoy this game!
