What is this Thing?

As you may have noticed, this is something. It is, a thing. A very shootey, space ship flyey kind of thing. Since I haven’t really elaborated on the nature of this thing and the things to come from the thing I shall do that now. Hopefully in less vague terms and a bit more intrigue than a cat howls the alphabet. Right, lets get to it.

Murder Ball… ahh… nothing wakes you up (or puts you to sleep) like murder. It really livens things up, a bit of murder here, a bit of man-slaughter there. It’s what shows us what is best in life and that, of course, is Murder.

Murder Ball comes from the idea of turning this delicate art into both a science and sport at the same time and adding explosions for effect. This satisfies all the three major categories of society: The Sports Fans, The Action Fiends and The Psychopaths.

In the 23rd Century, Bic a company known for making ancient rods of scripting, was growing tired of it’s hundred years old business. So, it sent out an anonymous survey to a random planet in the Federation to learn how they might expand their business. Luckily for sports (which had been on decline ever since the Frogzards had joined the Galactic Football League), this survey arrived on the planet Tantalus. Tantalus, had recently been designated as a prison planet, no civilization existed and no one ever got past the battle fleet orbiting it. Upon the arrival of millions of sharp pointed rods on Tantalus, Murder Sprees erupted. This instantly drew the polycarbonate scripting rod manufacturers attention. It seems that their device was most often used for Murder.

Driven to innovation the company designed a new idea that would allow them to compete at a new level in their market. This was the rise of Murder Ball. Initially it began when a clever engineer replaced the ancient leather of a soccer ball with sheets of steel and 1 inch spikes. However, it was soon decided that something better, something grander, had to be done. Therefore, the company outspaced their work and began the construction of the first ship based sporting arena.

Murder Arena was never completed as the company rapidly moved in to debt as nobody understood why they would pay for such archaic technology as scripting rods.

The grandness of Murder Ball lived on however as the sports that had been created from the companies brief innovation. As the spiked balls were casually tossed about playgrounds across the Galaxy a mind was innovating. Bill Woznijob eventually designed what is Murder Ball today. However, they were sued into submission by a company who’s logo resembles what school books call ‘fruit’.

The iMurder arena was finally constructed and was christened by Bill who flew the first match. Alas, he was struck down in the first 10 seconds of his career.

Murder Ball is now played in 17 different Solar Systems including Sol and the Crescent Rose Orbital System.

The goal remains much the same as it did when it was first produced by that one rod company. A large metal sphere is placed in an arena with two goals on either side. Both teams must attempt to propel the ball into the other teams goal using their weapons, ships, asteroids and science. No rules exist beyond the limit of the arena. The first team to reach 3 points is the winner. The other team is either dead (73%) or dying (27%). Great spoils and all the losers possessions are given to the winners of a Murder Ball match. Murder Pilots receive immense fame and the matches are broadcast across the subnet to trillions of viewers Galaxy Wide.
